BODRUM

Bodrum lies on the south west coast of Turkey, upon the Mediterranean Sea. It is a port town which is in very close proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is home to an enviable Mediterranean climate of long hot summers, enjoyable spring and autumn months, and short mild winters.

Summer is peak season in the region; tourists flock in from all over the world to relax on the long sandy beaches and soak up the rays in the 25+ degree heat. In the height of summer the mercury rises above 30 degrees on many occasions, providing a great atmosphere to lie on the beach or by the pool (covered in sunscreen!), or to hire a jet ski and have fun upon the Mediterranean Sea.

While summers can get blisteringly hot at times, particular during the hottest months of July and August, the area benefits from the cooling prevailing wind, the Meltemi, which blows refreshing crisp winds from the Aegean from May through to October, and reaches its peak during the height of the summer. This wind pushes the city's temperature down in the evenings and provides for a perfect atmosphere to sit on the city promenades, take in the view and enjoy some Turkish cuisine.

The spring and autumn months are each extremely pleasant times to visit, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid 20’s, you will be sure to experience plenty of sun filled days and clear skies. April and May are perfect months for walking and hiking through the green hills and taking in the beautiful sights and smells of a blooming spring. The beginning of autumn and end of spring are certainly warm enough for the average holidaymaker and are preferable in terms of tourist crowds. Out of the peak summer months finding a spot on the beach is a little less tricky and you may benefit from cheaper flights and accommodation. However, while the sea is more than warm enough for swimming in October and November, it can be a bit too nippy in the spring.

Rain generally falls in the winter months so come prepared with an umbrella if visiting in this period. During winter, from November till March, Bodrum sees much cooler weather, with average daily temperatures dropping to 10C or below. Its position upon the Mediterranean Sea means that temperatures are moderated and conditions stay pretty mild. Most rain falls during December and January, and the area will occasionally see heavy storms. While Bodrum is usually warmer than the UK throughout winter, it should not be considered a ‘winter sun’ destination.
