The coastal region of Varna experiences a Maritime climate with warm summers and mild winters. The urban area has in excess of 20 km of sandy beaches and thrives in thermal stone water sources; with temperatures of 35°Ð¡ to 55°Ð¡. Varnaâs climate is influenced by the sea with long, mild, akin to Mediterranean, autumns, and summers filled with sunshine, moderated by a cooling breeze and more regular rainfall. The city is cut off from north and north-east winds by the hills along the north arm of the bay. Varna holidays give the opportunity to discover the numerous beaches that lie along the Black Sea coastline. With over 2500 hours of sunshine per year itâs easy to see why this area of Bulgaria is becoming a tourist hot spot.
Situated on Bulgariaâs coast, Varna is characterised by warm, sunny days from May to October with mid-summer air temperatures averaging 28°C and sea temperatures ranging from 23°C to 25°C. During the long, hot summer months the sun will shine down for around ten hours per day allowing visitors to build up a golden tan. Summer is also a perfect time to indulge the benefits of the Black Sea as temperatures suitable to laze around Varnaâs stunning beaches or to indulge in the many water sports. The heat is never unpleasantly hot and even the peak summer months are a good time to explore the beautiful countryside in this area of Bulgaria.
Spring and Autumn
Spring and autumn in Varna are still pleasantly warm with temperatures sticking around the 18°C mark. An October holiday break in Varna will be an excellent time to shake off the British chill, and with temperatures at around 19°C tourists can still easily pick up a tan. Visitors can expect around six hours of sunshine per day in October, therefore the cooler autumn months are perfect for a family holiday. Spring will also see temperatures in Varna at around 15°C mark making it the perfect holiday hotspot for an Easter holiday break.
Winters can get fairly cold, although are a lot milder than the interior of the country where the snow falls heavily, and many of the resorts shut down for the season. Climates throughout the coldest months of January and February will typically linger at 3°C and will rarely fall below freezing point. Late autumn and the early winter months are also the town wettest time of the year as precipitation levels average at 50mm. Although Varna receives about two thirds of the average rainfall for Bulgaria, abundant groundwater keeps its wooded hills lush throughout both the winter and summer.
