The typical weather featured in Portimao is one of the most enjoyable found on the whole coast of the Iberian Peninsula. With very little climatic variation, Portimao experiences mild temperatures in both winter and in summer. If youâre not satisfied in benefiting from some of the most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean, the Algarve and the southern region of Portugal provides some of Europeâs sunniest locations. Portimao supplies well over 3000 hours of pure, warm sunlight every year, guaranteeing a pleasurable vacation at any time of the year. With average temperatures rising above 30ºC during the summer, the coldest winter months to be compared to a warm spring in the UK. With endless hours of sunshine and rainfall amounts that are practically non-existent during the summer months, Portimao sees sun worshippers return year after year.
Summer
In Portimao the peak summer season extends from May until late October and average daytime temperatures during these months never fall below the 20ºC mark. June, July and August are the resorts hottest months of the year and temperatures during this time often peak beyond 30ºC. Sunshine levels during these months are also at their highest averaging at least twelve hours on a daily basis. Although daytime climates on Portimao can provide sweltering temperatures during the hottest months, a soothing sea breeze can sweep in on occasions and take the edge of the scorching heat. Precipitation levels average at 3mm throughout July and August combined; therefore humidity levels are always relatively low.
Autumn and Spring
Although the lengthy summers include months of autumn and spring, March, April and November do tend to be the cooler periods. However these months are still a very enjoyable time to visit Portimao as temperatures still hover around 20ºC and the peak summer crowds have either not yet built up or died down. Although rainfall levels during the shoulder seasons are not as low as the summer months they are much less than the winters so one can still enjoy long hours of sunshine each day.
Winter
Holidays in Portimao and the rest of the Algarve region have become a very popular destination to enjoy warm winter sun. Even during the coldest months of December and January visitors to Portimao will still enjoy at least six hours of warm sunlight each day and the daytime climate will generally stay above 15ºC. Nights may bring a slight chill and crisp feeling in the air and even though the winter months are Portimaoâs wettest time of the year, the days commonly stay clear filled with blue skies and warm winter sunshine. The mild and pleasing temperatures throughout the winter make a perfect Christmas or New Year sunshine break.
