We went last 2 weeks in September and the weather was 'abnormally' hot which meant low to high 40s.

Getting around during the hottest part of the day was not even worth trying and the town was empty of tourists.

When visiting the sites try to always arrange to get there either early (08:00) or late (17:00) to avoid being burnt to a crisp.

The holiday was fantastic with 2 weeks of astonishment and heat.

Do not be scared to explore Luxor, especially early morning or late evening/night time when it 'comes alive' as all the locals go about their business.

We did not feel scared or threatened at any point no matter where we went and if lost it was always easy to get directions.


Take sweets etc out from UK to give to the children on the street and be prepared for a lot of hassle from the taxi/caleche drivers who are only trying to earn a living as tourism is really down at the moment due to the 'troubles' which have not affected Luxor at all.

The weather in Luxor for the 2 weeks we were there was very hot every day, average daily temp of 40F

Night time was a little cooler but still a very nice average of around 25-28F although not as sticky and humid as being in some european destinations

The holiday itself was great, we had a weeks cruise on the nile aboard the M/S Regancy
This boat is fantastic, food was always hot and always something for everyone , staff very freindly and helpfull and the tours to all the temples and sites were very well run qwith a guide to bring it all to life for you
Also had a week at the Jolie Ville resort on the banks of the nile, hotel is a little way out of the main area of Luxor on it's own private island. great if you want a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and busle of Luxor itself and if you want to experiance Luxor(and it is an experiance) then the hotel runs cortasy buses and boats from the hotel to luxor a couple of times a day, altough the local taxis are very cheap but some of them are a little on the old side.
When out and about you will be constantly asked by all the locals if you want to go into there shop or if you want a taxi or even a horse drawn cab ride.
This can be a little annoying at times but they are only trying to earn a living and a polite no thank you usually does the trick, some are just happy to talk to you
