We’re betting you probably don’t want to have to venture too far to enjoy a sunny, snowy break away either. Hence, top of many a ski bunny’s agenda is checking out The French Alps’ long-range ski and snow forecast. We’re hoping for plenty of fresh powder and bags of sunshine…

January 2014
Typically wintry weather is forecast for this month, with the north northeast current bringing heavy snowfall down to the plains. Come the thaw, there will be abundant snow in the mountains. The weather will turn very cold during the second half of the month with an average temperature of -15 °C in the valleys, however, it will not last.

February 2014
February’s weather will be disrupted by a westerly current of air, which will bring rain to the valleys, and snowfall to the mountains. Offering respite from this month’s climatic unrest are some decidedly spring-like days.

March 2014

March is set to enjoy mild, sunny and spring-like weather brought on by the foehn – a type of dry, warm, down-slope wind that occurs in the lee (downwind side) of a mountain range. The current is then due to swing to the northwest bringing snow at all altitudes. By this time, the weather will herald the warmer, brighter temperatures and conditions of spring interspersed with times of unstable, cooler weather.

April 2014
This month will be highly unstable with cold weather and snow showers in the valleys being the order of the day. Frost will be common and sunny days will be few and far between.
