Spring is nearly here and the start of European Summer Time on Sunday 30th March (don’t forget to change your clocks!) brings with it the promise of longer, lighter and warmer days. However, with average maximum temperatures in the UK unlikely to reach the twenties until July (and even then, who knows what summer 2014 will have in store), there’s no better time to jet off with Thomas Cook to soak up some pre-summer sun. Here’s a trio of top holiday destinations, which pretty much guarantee great weather…

Cyprus

After a flight of less than five hours, you’ll arrive on the beautiful island of Cyprus where temperatures tend to hit the mid-twenties in April. Budding archaeologists can easily visit one of the most important and best-preserved prehistoric sites of the Eastern Mediterranean in Khirokitia, only about an hour’s drive from Protaras. If you’re hiring a car, you might also want to take a day trip to the Karpas Peninsula to revel in its natural beauty and miles of unspoilt white sands at Golden Beach. Gran Canaria

A four-hour flight will take you to Gran Canaria, with its mild and pleasant climate and temperatures of around 20°C in April, it’s a hugely popular holiday destination. A haven for nature lovers, Gran Canaria is often referred to as a miniature continent, with a third of the island under protection as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. If you’re after a bit of culture, head to Las Palmas, an authentic Spanish city with a variety of fashionable bars and restaurants, many of which are located in the historic quarter of Vegueta – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Turkey

An eclectic blend of ancient history and modern comforts awaits you in Turkey, only around four hours’ flight away and with temperatures of around 20°C in May. Side is actually an ancient Greek city and one of the best-known classical sites in the country with ancient ruins in abundance, including the Greek Amphitheatre and the Temple of Apollo. Once you’ve trekked around the ruins, make sure you stop off at Ocakbasi or one of the other traditional Turkish restaurants for a delicious meze.
