With two bank holiday weekends in May, it’s the perfect time of the year to book a short trip away and enjoy the long weekend in style.

With plenty of last minute holiday deals and offers available, you can get away without breaking the budget.

The spring weather this year may have been unpredictable so far, with more wet weather predicted for the month, but that shouldn’t put a damper on your time off work.

One of the best ways to enjoy the long weekend is by taking advantage of the special deals and breaks on offer; you don’t even have to go far.

London might only be expected to see highs of 15°C this weekend, with an average temperature of 10°C, but there’s plenty to do in the city without letting the weather stop you.

Companies such as Superbreak offer package deals like the Ultimate London Attraction Break,  which offers priority entrance tickets to some of the city’s major attractions (including a ride on the London Eye, Madame Tussauds, the Sea Life Centre and the London Dungeons). With a 20% saving compared to buying these tickets separately, you can enjoy it on a budget too.

While you’re in the city, there are also plenty of last minute deals to be had on many of the major West End shows too, for an evening out.

On top of this, the East Midlands Trains Rail deal offers a return ticket from any East Midlands Train station to London St Pancreas with a two night stay in a London hotel, so you can really make the most of a weekend away.

Whether you’re travelling with the family or just a group of friends, there are plenty of thrills to be had at one of the country’s top theme parks.

Thorpe Park is offering special discounts and deals, with 20% off for those who book as little as two days in advance and 40% if you book a week earlier. While Alton Towers is offering 10% off for bank holiday stays and with two new rides, including the terrifying underground ride, Nemesis Sub-Terra and the more family friendly Ice Age The 4D Experience, there’s something for people of all ages.

If the weather does hold out, there’s no better place to be than on the coast for a weekend spent beside the sea side.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is Britain’s biggest tourist attraction and has everything from rollercoaster rides to theatre shows.

Or, with temperatures averaging 13°C – 15°C for this weekend, there’s plenty on offer for a quick trip to Brighton or Weymouth, or even further south, to Cornwall, which is only slightly cooler, with an average of 11°C expected.

Alternatively, Haven Tours offer bank holiday breaks across the country for as little as £99 for a family stay.

Getting out of the UK for the bank holiday is also an option that doesn’t have to break the bank; there are plenty of package deals available that will take you across seas.

Last minute deals can be found on city breaks to places such as Amsterdam or even Paris, with Arrow Tours offering special discount vouchers for some of the top attractions and a free cruise on the River Seine when you book your holiday. Or you can take advantage of one of the all inclusive deals available on a beach resort stay, with Ibiza a popular option.

Whether you want to stay close to home or go further afield this month, there are plenty of options available for a May bank holiday away.
