The beach resort of Biscarrosse looks west into the Atlantic Ocean from the South-West of France. The Landes commune, aside from being a cracking holiday resort with plenty for both active and relaxing holiday-makers alike, is home to Europeâs oldest tree. Sounds bizarre? It is! Especially seeing as the tree is now hollow and dead, but thereâs bound to be stranger things in the world.
Biscarosse sees a calmer European temperature in comparison to Greece and Italy, great for those who just want the sun to be out and the sky to be clear without having the fear of burning to a crisp. With 11 hotels and 16 campsites, Biscarrosse is kitted out for any and every type of holiday accommodation. Thereâs a plethora of restaurants and shops for souvenirs and tourists can indulge in the resortâs deep history that involves seaplanes, castles and the legend surrounding the Elm tree.
Summer
Starting with summerâs temperature forecast, Biscarrosse sees average temperatures of 19°C (66°F) and 20°C (68°F) all through the season. These temperatures usually peak at 24°C (75°F) and trough at 14°C (57°F) which is still warm enough to enjoy a day cycling, swimming in the lake or sunbathing in front of the Atlantic Ocean.
Thereâs little humidity in the summer, which is a nice departure from the southern regions of Europe where it sends the temperature skyrocketing. There is however a high UV index around the whole West coast that can reach up to 8 on the scale, which means itâs time to slap on the sun cream. Nobody likes it, but when your parents said itâs for your own good, they were right.
It rains in Franceâs secluded beach resort, on average, 11 days a month in the summer and brings anything from 62mm to 75mm. Such is the price for wanting a cooler European holiday, but donât despair. Rainâs not necessarily a bad thing and besides, the holiday season sees 8 hours of sun per day, so thereâs still plenty of daylight to be had.
Winter
Tourists can expect average temperatures of 6°C (43°F) for the whole season. With highs of 9°C (48°F) and lows of 2°C (36°F), itâs still warm enough for a cosy woolly coat and hat holiday. The humidity over the winter ensures that there will be a thin layer of frost over everything in the mornings, but that will most likely thaw as the evenings draws nearer.
Winter is Biscarrosseâs rainy season and it kick-starts with 110mm over 17 days in December. Luckily thatâs about the worst it gets as it then falls down to an average 90mm over 16 days in January before dropping further still to 78mm over 15 days in February.
It gets dark early in winter Biscarrosse with only 2 hours of sunshine in December and increasing to (a rather nocturnal) 3.5 hours in February.
Given that thereâs little sunlight in winter, as expected the UV index indicates itâs safe to leave the sun block at home, staying in the low grade of 1.
Spring/Autumn
Spring normally sees temperatures growing from 9°C (48°F) to 15°C (59°F) just in time for summer while autumn keeps the warmth going for as long as it can with 18°C (64°F) in September down to 10°C (50°F) in November.
Both seasons see a fair amount of rain with the spring ranging from 50-60mm and autumn pelting down 80-92mm, both over an average 13 days in each season.
The sun shows itself for around 7 hours per day in both seasons, but is a late bloomer in spring, giving only 5 hours in March before getting its act together for the rest of the season.
