The sea temperatures average out at 56.6° (12°C) and precipitation is at a median level of 84mm (3.3") over a period of 17 days of the month so umbrellas are in order.  In May the sun shines in Cork over a period of 8 hours on average.

In 2009 Cork was voted the third best city in the world to visit.  It is easily accessible by ferry or boat from anywhere in Ireland and boasts an array of beautiful buildings.

There are several reasonable B&B's to choose from in and around the city of Cork.  Two of those with very complimentary reviews are the Avondale Bed and Breakfast with its spotless rooms, delicious breakfasts and very accommodating hosts and Auburn House, which is within walking distance of all the great restaurants and bars in Cork.  Its hosts are very helpful with suggestions for your stay in the area and they provide an excellent breakfast.

The city is built on hills, so if you're lodging is elevated you can take in the spectacle of city lights at night.  The River Lee flowing through Cork adds a special ambience. Its many bridges add to the pleasure of strolls through the streets.

Attractions include the famous English Market, where you can pause from your wanderings to enjoy freshly brewed coffee or one of the many delicacies to be found there.  The Crawford Art Gallery and the Cork City Museum will please any art lovers and if you visit the Shandon Church you can even ring its bells.

Bantry House overlooks Bantry Bay in West Cork.  It is truly an example of magnificent architecture and is one of the finest historic houses in Ireland.  It is still owned and lived in by Egerton Shelswell-White, direct descendant of Richard White (Earl of Bantry).  During April and May there is a special promotion for two people to stay and enjoy the buffet, breakfast and tour of the house and gardens.

For those who enjoy watching dog races, the Cork Greyhound Track in Curraheen Park, Bishopstown is a short 10 minute drive from the Cork City Centre. Races take place in the evenings, Thursday through Sunday.
