Weather Overview for Larnaca , Cyprus
Cyprus is a summer holiday destination favoured by sun-seekers the world over, with an abundance of sunshine and soaring temperatures during the typical summer months of July and August. The city of Larnaca is the third largest on the island and is a coastal city that's situated on the east coast of the island, upon the Mediterranean.
The city is one of Cyprus's major seaside resorts, famed for its picturesque seafront, lined with rows and rows of palm trees and scenic city promenades. It is often named as an area of outstanding natural beauty and there are numerous beautiful beaches within close range of the city.
Variations in temperature and rainfall throughout the island are determined by altitude and distance from the coast. Larnaca lies at one of the lowest altitude points in Cyprus and is situated on the coast, so as a result it enjoys gorgeous weather year round. Larnaca's climate is typically Mediterranean. This means it's characterised by long, dry summers and mild winters, which are separated by the short shoulder seasons of autumn and spring.
Summer
Summer is the most popular time to visit Cyprus, when the weather is at its best. The island is influenced by a low pressure trough which brings hot weather and cloudless skies during the summer months. As you would expect, the summer season in Larnaca is hot and the sun can be scorching, heating the region for at least 10 hours a day. This means many tourists spend their days on the city's beautiful beaches, soaking up the rays and getting a tan.
June and September generally see average daily temperatures of 25°C with the peak summer months of July and August seeing higher averages of 27°C. Temperatures reach highs of 32°C in the middle of summer, which can feel rather hot if you aren't prepared. Opt for accommodation with air conditioning, pack sun-lotion and make the most of the pleasant sea breeze which cools the heat, particularly in the evenings.
One of the best parts of the summer weather in Larnaca, as far as tourists are concerned, is that there is generally little to no rainfall from June through to September. These months see just 10mm of rainfall each which is almost unnoticeable and definitely won't have an effect on your summer holiday. Alongside this, sea temperatures are lovely and warm at around 24°C perfect for swimming and water-sports!

Autumn
While summer is peak tourism season in Larnaca, autumn is a great option for a holiday too, particularly if you want to avoid the hottest temperatures and see the city away from the summer crowds. From October to November, the heat diminishes a little, which makes the city much more comfortable and bearable. It's still pleasant enough to sunbathe and swim, but it means that tourists can also explore the city's other attractions without overheating.
October experiences an average temperature of 22°C while the temperature drops slightly in November to 17°C. At the start of the season, highs can still reach 27°C which definitely feels more like summer than autumn, though there will be night-time lows of 12°C as winter approaches.
Though temperatures are great throughout the autumn season in Larnaca, rain is a little more likely than in the previous few months. Don't worry though, as it is still very low, with just 20mm in October and 40mm in November. This averages between 6 and 8 wet days per month, which shouldn't cause too much of a problem. The sun also shines for fewer hours per day in Larnaca but the weather is still generally clear and bright. There's around 8 hours of sunshine per day in October and 7 in November.
Winter
Winter arrives in Cyprus in December and brings lower temperatures and more rainfall. Despite this, winters in Larnaca are mild. While the season is the wettest of the year and the majority of the annual rainfall occurs during the winter months, rainfall is still very low compared to other areas of Europe and the weather in general is still rather pleasant.
December sees the most rainfall, at 90mm which then falls to 60mm in both January and February. Each month has an average of 12 wet days. The average temperature in December is 14°C, while January and February are the coldest months of the year at 12°C. Temperatures can still reach surprising highs at this time of the year though, with an average maximum of 16°C to 18°C in December and February, which can feel quite warm. Night-times in Larnaca are when the coldest weather occurs, with lows of between 7°C and 9°C.
During winter, the nearby Troodos mountains (home to Mount Olympus) will experience lower temperatures and snowfall, though this rarely makes it down into coastal towns. With reduced sunshine hours of 4-5 per day and chilly sea temperatures, you may need a jacket, but you should still see some winter sun.
Spring
From March until May, the wintery weather starts to disappear as spring arrives. Days get longer and sunnier and temperatures increase. Average temperatures in March are around 14°C, however towards mid-May, you will experience much warmer temperatures, making this a great time to visit before the searing temperatures of summer. The average temperature during this month is 21°C while highs reach a wonderful 26°C. Nights are still cold at the start of the season, but warm up considerably towards the end, with average low temperatures of 15°C.
March sees around 50mm of rainfall throughout the month, but rain quickly diminishes as the season goes on. If you want to stay dry, April and May are the best spring months to visit Larnaca, seeing just 10mm of rainfall each month. With such a small amount of rainfall, you're almost guaranteed dry weather that's perfect for hitting the beach.
Sunshine hours also increase dramatically throughout the spring, providing long, bright days and plenty of time for sunbathing. There's an average of between 6 and 10 hours of sunshine from March to May. While the end of spring is generally warm enough for sunbathing and getting a golden tan, holiday makers might want to stay out of the sea until summer arrives. Average sea temperatures between March and May are just 9°C to 16°C which will feel very chilly.
