Cala n Forcat has a typical Mediterranean climate of long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The area is known for its exceptional summer weather and while its winters are not baking the weather is certainly preferable to more northerly regions with plenty of sunshine and an absence of cold temperatures.
Cala n Forcat sits on the western coast of Minorca, the northernmost of Spainâs Balearic Islands which lie in the Mediterranean Sea to the east of mainland Spain. Minorca is also known as the âwindy isleâ as it is visited by no less than eight prevailing winds, the most dominant of which is the northery tramontana wind.
Summer, from June till September, is baking hot and gloriously sunny. The average high temperature rises from 25°C in June, to 28°C in July and 29°C in August, before dropping back to 26°C in September. The average low temperature, which occurs at night, rises through the high teens to sit around 20°C in the peak months. Sunshine levels are fantastic, reaching a peak of an average of eleven hours per day in July. Rainfall is minimal though you might get a few showers in September. The average sea temperature sits comfortably in the 20s for most of the season, peaking in August at 25°C. This beautiful weather unsurprisingly draws the holiday crowds, but Minorca is a favourite with locals on holiday and with quieter family groups and couples, so it is less hectic here than on neighbouring Mallorca. Some might find the heat a bit too much to take, but there is usually a cooling breeze and you can always take a plunge in the sea. Later on in the season the heat and absence of rain means Cala n Forcat loses its greenery, but this is typical of many Mediterranean destinations.

Autumn, in October and November, is warm and much wetter, but still a great time to visit. The average high drops down into the low 20s in October and to 18°C in November. The average low stays in the teens at the start of the season but gets down to 11°C in November, which probably necessitates an extra layer or two. October is the wettest month in the year but wet weather on occurs on an average of seven days in the month, so itâs unlikely to be much of a problem. Itâs still sunny but much less so than in the summer, getting down to an average of five hours per day in November. The sea temperature remains warm enough for swimming for most of the season, though would probably be considered a bit chilly come mid-November.
Winter, from December till February, is mild and moderately wet, but sunny for winter in the Northern Hemisphere. The average high temperature gets down to around 14°C and the average low to 7°C for most of the season. The wind can make this feel much colder. You wonât freeze but you probably wonât spend much time stripped down to your t-shirt. Frosts and snow are highly unlikely due to Cala n Forcatâs position right on the water. Sunshine levels are lowest in December at an average of four hours per day, getting back up to five for the rest of the season. London sees an average of only one hour per day in December, so in terms of sunshine winter in Cala n Forcat is comparitively blinding. Rainfall only falls on around eight days per month, often in heavy showers and sometimes strong storms. The sea is too cold for swimming at an average temperature of 14°C. If youâre just looking to escape a cold, grey winter at home and donât expect to sunbathe, Cala n Forcatâs winter might suit you very well. One of the pluses of winter is the autumn rains will have brought the landscape back to life, infusing it with endless green.
Spring, from March till May, quickly warms up and welcomes back the sun. The average high temperature climbs to 15°C in March, 17°C in April and 21°C in May. The average low only gets above 10°C towards the end of April and into the low teens in May so you will need to bring a jacket. March is actually the windiest time of year so it can feel much cooler. Rainfall remains moderate till it drops off in May. Sunshine levels go up and up, reaching an average of six hours per day in March, seven in April and nine May. The sea takes its time heating up, only getting up to 17°C in May which many will consider a bit too fresh for swimming. In late spring the weather is generally much more settled. It is a good time to visit to avoid the crowds and excessive heat of summer, and by the end of May the sea is much less bracing.
