Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising 👥
The Anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising is a major day of remembrance for the people of Poland. In 1944, Polish citizens and resistance movements fought back against the Nazis. After a 63-day battle, the Polish surrendered, survivors were executed and the city was burned. It is a somber celebration in Poland, but a day to honour those who lost their lives and celebrate national pride. The city of Warsaw holds an annual celebration with concerts, dignitary and presidential speeches, performances, sporting events, activities for children, military processions and patriotic parades. At 5:00pm, the celebrations stop, TV and radio broadcasting comes to a halt and there is a minute of silence to honour the insurgents and one of the most important days in Poland's history. The celebrations conclude by lighting the Memorial Fire at the Mound of the Warsaw Rising.
