What the weather like in Seville ?
Seville has a lovely subtropical Mediterranean climate which features very hot summers and milder winters. Due to its inland location in the south of Spain, the city is one of the warmest in Europe. In fact, the hottest-ever European temperature occurred in 1881 in Seville when temperatures reached a sweltering 50°C on August 4th!
In general though, the weather in Seville is pretty consistent each year, with an abundance of sunshine and temperatures that soar to the mid-thirties in July and August. The height of summer heat can provide quite challenging weather, especially for sightseeing. One of the most popular sites to view in Seville, Plaza de España, is one of the hottest places in the city.
Autumn and spring offer more moderate heat in Seville, with averages around 20°C or less which is much more enjoyable if you want to get out and about and explore the city's attractions. Winter is milder still, with less sunshine, especially January which is the coolest month of the year. However, the weather is still better than the rain and snow of England, making Seville a great winter getaway destination.
Summer Weather in Seville
Temperature
The heat arrives in summer in Seville and the city gets very busy. From June until September, temperatures rarely fall below mid to high twenties during the day. The hottest weather occurs in July and August with an average temperature of 28°C and highs hitting a red-hot 36°C. On occasions, the temperatures have even been known to peak in the forties.
Sunshine Hours
Along with high temperatures, there's plenty of sunshine to be seen, with 12 sunny hours each day to look forward to. This time of the year is peak tourist season in the city, although the temperatures and beating sun can get a little too hot for some. If you're visiting Seville to see the sights, the weather could feel quite uncomfortable in summer.
Rain
There is also very little wind or rain as Seville is extremely dry throughout summer. July sees virtually no rain while there's a negligible 5mm in August and 8mm in June. As a result, droughts can occur in the summer months. Seville is a nocturnal city, especially during the summer season, as temperatures cause siestas to take place during the day. However, when the sun starts to set, bars and cafes become very lively.
Autumn Weather in Seville
Temperature
Autumn brings cooler temperatures to Seville, which can feel like a relief after the sizzling summer months. October sees average temperatures of 20°C falling to 15°C in November, though highs can still reach 26°C at the start of the season. However, at night, the temperatures are refreshingly cool between 10°C and 14°C on average, which is comfortably warm enough for al fresco dining. Many will enjoy these milder temperatures and it's unlikely that you will need to pack a jacket.
Rain
Unfortunately, October and November does bring downpours, so pack an umbrella if you're visiting during these months. After the dry summer months, wet weather increases dramatically, with 70mm of rainfall in October and 67mm in November, which is around 6 of 7 wet days a month.
Sunshine Hours
There is also less sunshine in autumn than in spring or summer, with between 6 and 7 sunny hours a day.
Despite this, autumn is still a great time to visit the region, especially if you prefer milder temperatures and a more chilled atmosphere. The city is open year round so you'll find plenty to do in autumn, even if you do get caught in a shower.
Winter Weather in Seville
Temperature
Seville is often called a city for all seasons, and winter is a great time to visit. While winter is much milder than the summer months, the weather is still very pleasant. Colder temperatures occur from December until February, however, the weather tends to be much more pleasant than in the UK. Many locals don't have heating in their homes as it is still fairly warm, even for Spain. Average temperatures at this time of year are around 11C or 12°C while lows never fall below 6°C, even in the coldest month of January. Highs can even reach up to 17°C by the end of the season.
Rain
Winter does have some wet weather though, so travellers should pack an umbrella just in case they get caught in the rain. If you're visiting Seville in winter then you can expect 7 to 8 days of rain per month, with around 79mm of rain in December, the wettest month of the season. This is normally in the form of heavy showers but they tend to pass quickly.

The rest of the month is clear with around 6 hours of sunshine each day, which is pretty good for a European destination at this time of year.
Spring Weather in Seville
Temperature
Spring time falls between March and May in Seville. Much like autumn, spring experiences warm weather. March sees an average temperature of 15°C which rises to 20°C in May, while high temperatures are reaching the high twenties even by April. May sees a high of 27°C which is almost summer weather.
Rain
Visitors should keep in mind though, these pleasant temperatures are often accompanied by significant rainfall in spring. Rain helps spring to feel cooler with a few heavy rain storms hitting the city this season. March is the wettest month of the year, with 90mm of rain and 9 wet days, while April and May have 6 and 7 wet days respectively.
Sunshine Hours
Despite this, many will find spring a refreshing time to visit Seville as it's less busy than summer. There's plenty of sunshine in spring too, varying between 6 and 9 hours of sun every day.
Overall, spring is a great time to visit the city if you're looking to avoid the sweltering summer heat and crowds. It offers perfect conditions for exploring the sights, even if you do have to dodge a few rain showers.
