Bellagio has a mild, almost Mediterranean climate of long hot summers and mild winters, but with higher rainfall year round than resorts on the Mediterranean. Bellagio sits where the three arms of the Y-shaped Lake Como meet. Lake Como is an exceptionally deep glacial lake amidst the Italian Alps in the north of Italy. Bellagio is known as âthe pearl of Lake Comoâ.

Summer, from June till September, is hot and sunny. The temperature stays comfortably in the 20s for the entire season having warmed up considerably in spring. The average high climbs to 24°C in June, 27°C in July, 25°C in August and gets back down to 22°C in September. It can get into the 30s but humidity levels are generally not too high so it rarely becomes stifling or unbearable. The heat can always be escaped by a dip in the refreshing waters of Lake Como. At night it cools off at the beginning and end of the season enough to require an extra layer, but in the peak months the average low sits around 15°C which is very mild. Sunshine levels are good with around eight hours per day in the peak months. Any fog is usually cleared quickly by the summer sun but it does rain quite frequently. It can also be quite windy due to the formation of the surrounding mountains funneling wind and creating the Breva di Como, a north wind that blows down towards Bellagio past the more famous windsurfing locations such as Domaso and Gravedona.
Autumn, in October and November, is mild at first but becomes cool and grey. The average high temperature drops to 16°C in October and 10°C in November; the average low to 8°C and 3°C respectively. Sunshine levels remain good in October at an average of six hours per day but then dramatically drop in November to an average of three hours per day. The clouds linger but rainfall remains about the same: around 130mm of rain per month falling on around twelve days per month. Fog is quite common throughout the season.
Winter, from December till January, is cold but not severly so and the driest time of year. The average high temperature drops to around 6°C for most of the season and the average low hovers just below freezing. January, the coldest month, has an average low of -2°C. Sunshine levels stay the same at an average of three hours per day throughout the season. Precipitation drops to around 70mm per month which is similar to rainfall in the south of Britain. It does snow a bit but it only settles higher up, away from the lake. Again, fog and even freezing fog can occur.
Spring, from March till May, warms up pleasantly but also sees a return of the rain. The average high temperature gets up to 11°C in March, 15°C in April and 20°C in May. The average low climbs to 2°C, 6°C and 10°C respectively. From mid May temperatures in the low 20s are quite a common occurrence. Rainfall increases as the season progresses and May is the wettest month in the year. Sunshine levels increase to five hours per day in March and around six hours per day for the rest of the season.
