August Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

Though the weather in many region s is hotter in August than it is in July, the temperature in Washington DC is usually marginally cooler.

The highest recorded temperature in August in Washington DC was measured back in 1988 at 39°C, which is 2°C lower than the highest temperature ever recorded in July.

Indeed, average temperatures of 26°C at this time of the year in Washington DC are still 1 degree lower than those forecast in the previous month.

However, while the temperature is slightly cooler than those seen in July, it is still very warm. Peak daily temperatures are likely to average 30°C in August with an average low temperature that usually falls no lower than 21°C.

An average of 8 hours of daily sunshine produce plenty of fine weather in August, which is also drier than the month before. With many locals choosing to go on vacation during August, the Capital can be a lot quieter and easier to navigate.

Throughout August there are only likely to be 12 days which experience any sort of precipitation. And in total, an average of only 80mm of rain are likely to fall throughout the entire month.

Though a slight cooling in temperature and decrease in rain fall should lead to a decrease in humidity, this is not usually the case in Washington DC. The strong southerly winds keep humidity levels high throughout the month. In some areas, conditions are considered worse than they are in July.

But with warm weather, plenty of sun and less rain than experienced in the month before, August is a very popular time to come to this part of the US
