Vilamoura Weather March Averages, Portugal
What's The Weather Like In Vilamoura In March
March marks the start of spring in Vilamoura, Portugal, and the temperatures start to rise in anticipation of the summer months. It's the perfect time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds and stifling heat that summer brings with it.
Daily temperatures are around 14°C on average but, because it is nearing summer, they can rise to 18°C. Evenings are slightly cooler, and temperatures can drop to around 9°C still warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. It's worth packing a light jumper for the cooler evenings, but thin t-shirts and shorts will suffice for the day time.
Remember to take some sun cream with you as the spring sun is still strong. If you're visiting at the start of March, expect average high temperatures of 16°C which rise quickly to 20°C at the end of the month. Low temperatures at the start of the month sit at a chilly 8°C, rising to 11°C as the month comes to a close.
March in Vilamoura sees much less rainfall than January and February - almost half of the previous months' rain - with around 39mm falling throughout the whole month. This makes the chance of rain unlikely, but it still might be worth packing an umbrella so you don't get caught out.
Despite the warming temperatures in March, the sea temperature is still quite low at around 16°C thanks to the Atlantic currents, so it's best to stick to the swimming pools unless you're doing water sports or don't mind a bit of a chilly dip. The coastal breeze is getting warmer at this time of year, but it still makes the sea choppy and unruly not great for casual swimmers.
But not being able to swim isn't an issue because there's plenty more to do in Vilamoura. And, with 7 hours of sunshine per day during March (rising to 8 towards the end of the month), there's plenty of time to explore all that the resort has to offer. Even after nightfall there's still loads to do, and the rising evening temperatures mean you can stay outside for longer.
The humidity levels are around 70% on average during March and the air generally feels much warmer. March is the turning point between winter and summer, and the temperatures are very enjoyable with cool evenings the perfect time to discover Vilamoura when it's not as hot and busy as the summer months.
