Tunis Hotels in February

For a good budget hotel, the Hotel Belvedere Fourati offers a wide range of services for a great price. Despite the budget-friendly cost, guests get to enjoy free high-speed internet, a free breakfast including freshly squeezed juice and conveniently located in the city. The staff speaks French more fluently than English so don't be surprised if there may be a language barrier at first.

Sleek and modern, the Novotel Mohamed V is a popular choice among business travellers. With a central location in the city, this hotel gives guests an easy home base from which to explore Tunis. Each room has a comfortable bed, free Wi-Fi internet and a breakfast service in a common dining area. It is a hotel that straddles the line between affordable and luxury so it's a great middle of the road choice.

Another choice popular with the business crowd is the Ibis Tunis. This newer hotel is stylish and chic without sacrificing function. The hotel has free parking available to all of its guests if you decide to rent a car while on holiday. While the hotel is located within the city of Tunis, it is not terribly congested like many areas can be. If you book a trip here, you will likely need to use your rental car to travel readily or hire a taxi to navigate the city.

The Hotel Ariha is another great choice for travellers who don't want to stray too far into the budget or luxury categories. This hotel is located in the business district of Tunis so walking to popular attractions may take a little extra time. You will save money by staying away from popular tourist attractions but that money would be relocated to your transportation fund instead. Guests here can enjoy free breakfast, a safe in the room and high speed internet.

Bars and Restaurants

Easy to find in downtown Tunis, El Ali is a restaurant with traditional Tunisian cuisine. This restaurant is in a remodelled home and is decorated with many of the home's items including paintings and antiques. The menu has popular items including lamb tagine served in incredibly generous portions.

Essaraya is another frequently visited Tunisian restaurant. This restaurant has a menu of classics including stews, lamb and rice dishes and others. Essaraya, like many other restaurants, in the city, is located in a former home. The owners kept much of the original home's décor including photographs and artwork.

Things to do in Tunis in February

No trip to Tunis or Tunisia is complete without a stop to the ruins of Carthage some of which are known as Villas Romaines. These ruins are a substantial drive outside of Tunis, so if you decide to stroll through these ruins plan on spending the better part of a day here.

Located underneath the historic city of Tunis lies a network of catacombs. Tourists are allowed to enter into the catacombs, which date back centuries. Deep underneath the busy streets of Tunis, these sleepy, eerie catacombs hold the final resting places of Tunis' former residents. Because of the tremendous size of these catacombs, you could easily spend the better part of a day out of the sun sometimes just the ticket.

Located roughly 172 kilometres away from Tunis, there is a popular beach called Tabarka Beach. Mostly regularly accessed through a resort of the same name, this beach can be visited even without booking at this hotel. The beautiful Tabarka Beach has many stretches, some of which are public, and is acclaimed as being Tunisia's most beautiful seaside location and is well-loved by locals and discerning tourists alike. This beach is a great spot for snorkelling and diving and benefits from a truly stunning backdrop that takes in a striking Genoese castle and the Khroumerie Mountains. The sunsets seen from this beach are utterly glorious.

To explore the rolling Tunisian deserts, the Douz Voyages are a reputable and trusted company. Their excursions include 4x4 rides into the Grand Erg Oriental Sahara, camel rides, sand surfing and visiting oases. The tour company gets its name from Douz, Tunisia, a desert city where it is headquartered.

Dates for the diary

The one festival that goes on during February is the International Instrumental Festival. This festival is roughly a weeklong celebration of instrumental music. When this festival is underway, the theatres and other venues around Tunis schedule orchestral and smaller performances of all instrumental arrangements.
