December Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

Weather lowdown

As the year ends in Tulum, the heat drops down to a more moderate average daily temperature of 24°C (about 75°F). This is a great time of the year to get away and enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. And, there's no better way to spend the holiday season than with your toes in the sand.

The lows drop down to 21°C (around 70°F), but generally you'll only see those temperatures at night and in the early morning hours. Bring along a light jacket or sweater if you plan on being out and about in the evening hours. During the day, the highs get up to 27°C (about 81°F), great weather for checking out the Mayan ruins, wandering around town, or heading down to the beach. Thanks to the ocean breezes blowing in off the Caribbean, the humidity stays at a comfortable level too.

With six hours of sunshine each day, you'll want to have sunglasses and a hat to protect your eyes and skin from the UV rays. You probably won't need to have an umbrella, as the chance of rain on any given day is 20 percent. The resort sees 92 mm of rain over the course of the month, falling over eight days. Even in the dead of winter, the sea temperature is still plenty warm to swim, averaging 27°C (around 81°F).

While this part of the Riviera Maya doesn't get a lot of intense weather, it has seen some extreme highs and lows. The highest recorded temperature topped out at a very balmy 31°C (around 88°F). The lowest recorded temperature went all the way down to 13°C (about 55°F).
