May Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Torremolinos in May

May may not be the most popular of times to visit Torremolinoshat is without question July and Augustut it is definitely one of the best times. The warm and sunny weather lacks the excessive heat that can mark those peak months of summer, which it an absolutely wonderful month for outdoor activities.

As it is outside of the tourist season in this seaside town on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain, there are fewer crowds to contend with and accommodation costs remain reasonable. While the temperatures and number of daily sunshine hours are steadily climbing, correspondingly, the expectation for rain is dropping further. You can expect clear days and plenty of sun if you travel to the area in May.

Temperature

Afternoons in May are delightfully warm; the average high temperature this month is 24°C. At night, the mercury falls to an average low that is no lower than 13°C, also quite pleasant already, although not quite yet the warm night temperatures that come with the summer season. Everything is still in moderation in May. Both those high and low temperatures do rise greatly in the course of the month. The high temperature climbs from 22°C to 26°C, while the low temperature increases from 12°C to 16°C. The overall average temperature is 19°C, a three-degree increase since April.

Average Sea Temperature

The sea temperature, too, rises gradually, although with a slightly slower speed. The temperature of the Mediterranean Sea now averages 18°C, which might be high enough for the hardiest visitors to test out the water.

Daylight Hours

Another thing that gradually increases is the length of the days. May 1 is the shortest day of the month, with 13.42 hours of daylight. May 31 is the longest day, with 14.29 daylight hours. This 47-minute increase means that each day this month is 1.5 minutes longer than the day before.

Cloud Cover

May is the first month since the start of the year that sees a significant drop in cloud cover. From November through April, cloud cover ranged around 42%. Now, in the course of May, it drops greatly to 28%. At the end of the month, the sky is almost never completely overcast.

Average Sunshine Hours

You will be able to see sunshine more than 78% of the time. May is characterised by 12 glorious hours of sunshine per day, a two-hour increase since the previous month, which is mostly due to the clearing sky. The lengthening of the days, of course, also plays a role. May is the fourth sunniest month of the year, after the three following summer months of JuneJuly and August.

Rain

As cloud cover decreases hugely, so does rainfall. The total amount of rainfall in May is significantly less than it was in April. It went from 36mm to 12mm this month, which is spread out over 7 days with rainfall. This means that rainfall happens in short showers and is absolutely nothing to worry about during your vacation in Torremolinos in May. May is the fourth driest month of the year, after the three upcoming summer months.

Again, resembling the situation of cloud cover, the chance that rainfall occurs has been the same for several months, but now suddenly decreases significantly. You're most likely to get wet on May 1, when the probability of rainfall is 25%. May 31 is the driest day of the month, with a probability that rainfall occurs of merely 15%.

Moderate rain is the most common type of rainfall, being observed on 44% of the days with rainfall. Light rain and thunderstorms may occur as well, respectively on 22% and 18% of those days. A fourth type of precipitation that might happen is drizzle, which occurs on 11% of the days with precipitation.
