Tenerife north Weather September Averages, Canary Islands
What's the weather like in Tenerife in September?
Despite autumn officially arriving late in September, the summer heat will stick around Tenerife North for at least one more month. In fact, this month isn't much cooler than August, despite the fact that there is much less sunlight available on a daily basis.
This time of the year the northern half of the island receives approximately 9 hours of sunlight per day. This is down slightly from 12 hours per day the previous month. However, it is still very dry this time of the year with only 10mm of precipitation per month spread over an average of three days.
Average afternoon highs are only a few degrees cooler than the warmest conditions of the year felt just a month earlier. Afternoon high temperatures will reach an average of 28°C (82°F) making the daytime hours very pleasant, if not hot. Overnight lows will still be pleasant enough for visitors to leave a jacket at home with temperatures only dipping to an average of 22°C (72°F). Thanks to the moderating effect of the nearby ocean, the island doesn't experience large temperature swings and daytime highs are kept cooler than continental Spain and Europe. The average temperature throughout the day is a pleasant 25°C (77°F).
While on holiday, it is still possible to go swimming in the Atlantic Ocean with average water temperatures remaining a warm 25°C (77°F). At this point, water temperatures are still warm enough to forego a wetsuit and enjoy a long dip in the waves.
During this time of year, the wind will begin to calm down on the northern half of the island with slightly less than a 50% chance of seeing a day with high winds. With less wind, the island becomes even more enjoyable to visit.
