December is one of the coolest months of the year in Tenerife, Canary Islands. But compared to the rest of Europe, it's still a lot warmer and you can usually still sunbathe and swim in the sea.

Tenerife Beach for December
Playa Las Gaviotas
Approximately 10km further north from Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz is Playa Las Gaviotas. This beach is a challenge to get to, but its secluded location has made it one of the most popular naturist beaches on the island, with the dark volcanic sand Tenerife is known for.
Due to its remote location, you won't find any facilities here, apart from some parking spaces and a small snack kiosk which sells basic Canarian food and drink. The waves at this beach can get very large at times, making it a popular hotspot for surfers. But when surfing conditions are optimal, swimming is usually too dangerous. So if you see surfers heading into the water, make sure you get out!
The beach in front of the Lago Martianez swimming pools in Puerto de la Cruz is known as Playa Martianez and it's one of the calmest and safes beaches you'll find in the north of Tenerife. This is due to half of the beach being protected by a rocky breakwater, making it safe enough for swimmers and providing snorkelers with loads to see underwater.
Although there are very minimal services and facilities on this black sandy beach, you'll find plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants and mini markets just a short walk away in the centre of the resort.
Surrounded by cliffs El Bollullo beach is in the northern tip of the Island. The beach is surrounded by stunning scenery and is completely unspoilt and natural. The sea is pristine however strong currents can make it less kid friendly. The beauty of this isolated spot make this beach well worth a visit.
Bars and Restaurants
Restaurant Tambo in Puerto de La Cruz is a great place to go for freshly cooked fish and seafood. This seafront restaurant offers great ocean views alongside an extensive menu packed with local dishes made up of fresh ingredients caught that very morning. If you can't make your mind up, try the fish and seafood platter you'll get a little bit of everything.
The Original Wigan Pier in Playa de Las Americas is a popular place for evening entertainment in the south of Tenerife. Family-friendly entertainment takes place almost every night, with quizzes, bingo, karaoke and tribute act performances held regularly throughout the week. Typical British pub grub makes up most of the menu, including pies, burgers, jacket potatoes and fish and chips all available.
Paddy's Lounge in Los Gigantes offers excellent and reasonably priced range of dishes including Asian, British, Indian, grill and even a Christmas menu for the festive period! The bar downstairs features large screen TVs with sports coverage, and a fantastic selection of beers and spirits. Visitors can also enjoy live shows and evening entertainment during or after their meal.
Things to do in Tenerife in December
For some Christmas spirit, enjoy the festive decorations that are placed throughout many of the island's towns such as La Laguna, a well visited north eastern town which holds an annual Christmas market. Also, take a trip on a cable car up to Mount Teide for a stunning, snowy landscape; perfect for this time of year!
Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Pena Francia
Lovers of history and architecture won't want to miss the chance to visit Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Pena Francia in Puerto de la Cruz. This church is one of the most-visited sites in the resort and it's surrounded by small gardens with benches. The statues and the decorations here are some of the finest on the island and there is a number of cafes nearby where you can enjoy a refreshing drink as you watch the world go by.
In the South of the Island and within easy reach of Los Cristianos. Las Aguilas translates into The Eagles. Las Aguilas is a zoological and botanical gardens is renown for its outdoor birds of prey show. The gardens are surounded by lush green plants, it is host to a large variety of big cats, lemurs, and monkeys.
