July Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

Weather lowdown

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, one of the Baltic countries in the far northeast of Europe, enjoys the highest temperatures of the year in July. This is the peak of summer in the city and the weather is at its very best. Boasting a gorgeous Old Town, which, incidentally, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; beaches; and a vibrant nightlife, Tallinn is a popular vacation destination in this part of Europe. Particularly the people from Helsinki, Finland, regularly visit the cityhese two capital cities are located just across a sea arm from one another and are connected by a ferry line.

Cloud cover is at its annual low in July. It ranges between 75% in the beginning of the month and 71% at the end, which means that the sky is partly cloudy this time of years opposed to mostly cloudy for most of the rest of the year. In addition, the days in July are incredibly long. July 1 has 18.28 hours of daylight to enjoy; July 31 has 16.45 hours of daylight. Only June has longer days. When taking those two factors into account, we can conclude that July is one of the sunniest months of the entire year.

July is not only very sunny; it is also very wet. Summer is the wettest time of the year in Tallinn and July is by far the wettest month. There is 54mm of rainfall in total and there are 15 days with rainfall. Every other day sees rainfall in other words. The chance that you will experience rain ranges between 45% and 51%. The most common types are light rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms. These three occur respectively on 36%, 34% and 25% of the days with rainfall.

In terms of temperatures, July is the most enjoyable month of the whole year. The average temperature is at its annual high and is 18°C. Only August comes close to this "warmth." Even the nights are relatively pleasant this time of year, with an average low temperature of 12°C. In the afternoon, you can enjoy an average high temperature of 24°C. These temperatures tend to be fairly constant throughout the month. The temperature of the Baltic Sea is also at its annual max. The sea averages 19°C in July, which could be warm enough for swimming during a warm afternoon.

If you're heading to Tallinn in the near future, you might want to take a look at our detailed and up-to-date weather forecast.

Where to stay

One of the very best places to stay at when visiting Tallinn in July is the marvelous Three Sisters Hotel. Situated within the breathtaking UNESCO-listed Old Town, this five-star luxury hotel is housed in what is arguably the most recognisable trio of old merchant houses in the city. Even though it's housed in historic buildings, this is a modern hotel boasting all luxury amenities you could want.

Another five-star hotel in historic Tallinn is Hotel Telegraaf, which is housed in a building that was intended to be a telegraph station. It's located in a gorgeous area that is dotted with buildings dating back to as early as the 13th century. It boasts a full-service spa, free Wi-Fi, an underground parking lot, a great restaurant, a summer terrace, a lobby bar and an indoor heated swimming pool.

The Park In by Radisson Central Tallinn lies within walking distance from both the businesses and shopping malls in the modern centre, and the historic sites in the Old Town. This well-rated accommodation has 245 guest rooms, an all-day restaurant, a café, a lobby bar, a sauna and hot tub, four meeting rooms and free Wi-Fi.

Hit the beach

With an average sea temperature of 19°C, July is the time of year when Estonians head toward the beach. Pirita Beach is the largest beach in Tallinn. It's situated in the suburb of Pirita, but is easily reached from the city centre by public transportation. This free beach has many amenities, such as lockers, life guards, changing rooms, a bowling alley, a beach bar, kiosks, children's playgrounds and parking.

Eating and drinking out

Restoran Mekk is a dining venue in the Old Town serving typical Estonian cuisine with a modern twist. This is the restaurant of the Savoy Boutique Hotel and has been named as one of the most innovative restaurants in the city. If you want to try Estonian food, consider going there. If you're travelling with children, the fact that there is a free kids' menu makes it even more interesting.

Restoran  is another well-regarded restaurant in the city centre. It has been awarded the title of best Estonian restaurant a couple of times, which indicates the quality you may expect there. The menu is incredibly varied and extensiveishes range from crayfish soup to risotto. Instead of ordering one dish, you can also opt for a full-on multi-course dinner, which will take you on a delicious culinary journey.

Things to do

With temperatures rising up to 24°C in the afternoon in July, this is the time of year to be outdoors and soak up the Estonian sun. A great place to do just that is the Estonian Open Air Museum, which is situated in a peaceful seaside area known as Rocca al Mare. This superb open-air museum showcases rural life in Estonia as it was between the 18th and 20th centuries. There are countless thatched-roof houses, farm buildings, old windmills and even a village school. The people that work there are dressed in authentic costumes and will be able to tell you much more about what life was like in the country a couple of centuries ago.

The shops in the museum sell craftworks and artifacts, while the tavern serves typical Estonian food. This living museum with its historic buildings and expansive lawns is an ideal place to go for families with children, to enjoy a picnic and learn a bit more about Estonia's history. Occasionally, themed fairs and events are organised, featuring dancing, songs, games and traditional food.
