What's The Weather Like In Split In April

    Temperature

April comes to Split with higher temperatures and a bit more rain, typical for the spring shifts across the Mediterranean and Adriatic shorelines. The overall average temperature climbs up to 13° Celsius (56° Fahrenheit). The lowest recorded in April touches the 9° Celsius margin, especially during the crisp nights, but this is an improvement on March and the highs reach 17° Celsius. The spikes happen particularly in the last two weeks of the month, and given ongoing climate changes, expect them to reach 20° Celsius towards the last few days closest to May.

    Rain

It's time to bring out the spring jackets, ladies and gentlemen, but do keep the umbrellas handy. Sudden onsets of rain occur throughout April, although the average rainfall drops down to 62mm. Chances of rainfall go up to 39% and the number of rainy days climbs up to 8, as part of the typical coastal shifts of spring in the Adriatic Sea.

    Humidity

The air maintains a considerable amount of humidity, and the nights are surprisingly cool during the first couple of weeks; this, combined with occasional high winds, will bring about occasional brief showers towards the break of dawn.

    Sunshine Hours

At the same time, the chance of sunny days also reaches an equal and satisfying 39%, which is to be expected from a Splicani April. More sun, more fun – an increase to 10 hours of sunshine a day means the city tends to fully awaken at this time of the year.

    Sea Temperature

The beautiful and tempered Adriatic Sea finally raises its temperature to 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit), as more exotic southern currents begin to reanimate the sleepy seabed. The coastal winds continue to blow, but chances of windy days drop down to an encouraging 10%. Even the atmospheric pressure drops down to 30.31Hg, helping the soft spring settle of this part of the Dalmatian coast.

    Split Hotels In April

    Palace Judita Heritage Hotel

If you're looking to stay central and close to the main attractions of Split, then book yourself a room at the Palace Judita Heritage Hotel, the Emperor's Suites or the modern Split Apartments. They provide warm and high quality accommodation for very good prices, and their breakfast buffets are diversified and sating, not to mention delicious. The views in the morning are beautiful and the service is well-deserving of praise.

    Tchaikovsky Hostel

However, if a low-budget hostel is more like your thing, then simply head on to the Tchaikovsky Hostel or the Split Hostel Booze & Snooze, both with excellent amenities, surprisingly comfortable beds and prices starting at £7.50 per night in the off-season.

CroParadise Green Hostel / CroParadise Pink & Blue Hostel

Alternatively, the CroParadise Green Hostel and the CroParadise Pink & Blue Hostel are equally satisfying options, for prices starting at £6.50. Another good suggestion, although for a higher price of £14.50 per night, is the Design Hostel 101 Dalmatinac - with exactly 101 beds. The pun should be sinking in right about now. And don't forget, they all have good high-speed Wi-Fi.

    Split Beaches For April

    Bacvice Beach

While still not ready for splashing about, April is definitely a good month for those long beautiful strolls along the many beaches of Split. You can either explore the famous Seafront of Marjan from Riva all the way up to the south-western end of Split's marina, or stay local and let yourself be drawn into the breath-taking seascapes offered by Bacvice beach.

Other equally attractive patches of sand and sea worth visiting are Firule - small but extremely popular, and Trstenik, known for its pebbled surface, shallow entry and crystalline blue waters.

    Bars And Restaurants

    Cafe Luxor

As the weather begins to warm up the Dalmatian coastline, it becomes more and more appealing to visit the harbour's cafes and terraces, many of which open their doors early in the year. If you want to stay in the city, Cafe Luxor awaits with good coffee, comfortable cushions and a lovely atmosphere, tucked away in the fold of the Palace.

    Paradigma / Mazzgoon

If you're into modern cuisine, the highly-acclaimed Mazzgoon, the Uje and the Ma:Ton are perfect for you. Their menus are daring and innovative, but they do keep the old flavours of the region alive in the main courses. The wine lists are not to be ignored either, as Croatian restaurateurs pay a great deal of attention to pairing the exquisite foods with equally exquisite wines, both regional and imported - mostly from across the sea, straight from artisanal Italian wineries.

    Nostromo / Apetit

Traditionally, classic restaurants like Nostromo and Apetit offer typical Splicani cuisine, hearty and delicious served in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The Sperun is famous for serving excellent Dalmatian konoba, and let's face it - you haven't experienced Split if you haven't had a taste of this particularly tasty dish.

    The Gaga

The Gaga remains the undisputed champion of cheap but good cocktails. The Ghetto amps up its Jazz nights with some live performances. Tropic continues to be the main attraction, incorporating two floors of diverse music, and is armed with hefty bars run by friendly staff.

Things To Do In Split In April

Unsurprisingly, April is full of varied and interesting events, so do plan ahead if you intend to attend most, if not all of them.

    Days of Christian Culture

The "Days of Christian Culture" spreads over 11 days and takes place in three cities: Split, Sibenik and Dubrovnik. All three are important religious and cultural centres which favoured the development of Christianism after the fall of the Roman Empire, and this event encompasses exhibitions, concerts, lectures, discussions, book and CD releases, all contributing significantly to the rich diversity of the Croatian culture.

    Croatia Boat Show

Perhaps the most important event of April is the annual "Croatia Boat Show" and their choice of location certainly makes sense, as Split boasts a wide and absolutely splendid harbour, perfect for showcasing nautical beauties. The most powerful and luxurious yachts are showcased on this occasion, and the parade draws tens of thousands of Croatians and foreigners alike.

    International Festival of Wind Music

The "International Festival of Wind Music" takes place towards the end of the month, and it's quite the experience: it takes place at the Poljud Stadium, while its festive dinners are held at Hotel Medena. Wind orchestras from all over Croatia compete for the grand prize, and each performance is truly mesmerizing.

    Split Half Marathon

Come the very end of April, the Split Half Marathon brings people together for a competitive run through the city's most beautiful vistas, including Riva, Marjan Park and Poljud Stadium. World famous high-jumper Blanka Vasic and tennis legend Goran Ivanisevic are just two of the official ambassadors for this event.
