    Sorrento Weather for May 2022

What's the Weather Like in Sorrento in May

May in Sorrento, on the stunning Amalfi coast in southern Italy, is much warmer than the previous months.

It is the first month of the year when both the low and high average temperatures are above 10°C. They are respectively 12°C and 22°C, both a four-degree increase compared with their counterparts in April. Both temperatures also continue to rise throughout the month. The nighttime low temperature increases from 10°C to about 15°C, while the daytime high temperature rises from 20°C to 25°C. The overall average temperature is a pleasant 17°C.

    Sea Temperature

The average sea temperature is about 19°C, so it would be possible to head down to the nearby beaches and take a refreshing dip.

There is much less rainfall in May than there was in the previous month. The total amount is 51mm, which is spread out over 9 days with precipitation. This makes May the fourth driest month in the year, after the three following months. September has the same number of days with rainfall, but receives significantly more raindrops. May is definitely in the driest part of the year. The chance that rainfall occurs decreases drastically in the course of the month. May 1 is the wettest day with a 39% chance of rainfall; May 31 is the driest day with a 29% chance.

Moderate rain is the most common type of precipitation, occurring on 46% of the days with rainfall. Thunderstorms are quite likely to occur as well and are observed on 28% of those days. Other types of rainfall that may occasionally happen are light rain and drizzle, respectively on 15% and 8% of the days with rainfall.

    Sunshine Hours

May has 12 glorious hours of sunshine per day on average. Only JuneJuly and August are sunnier, although not by a lot. Those three months have merely one hour of sunshine more per day. The two main reasons for this high number of sunshine hours are the decrease in cloud cover and the increase in day length.

Cloud cover drops from 45% in the beginning of the month to 37% at the end, which means that the skies clear from partly cloudy to mostly clear. In May, the sky is overcast only 12% of the time and is clear 46% of the time.

    Daylight Hours

The days lengthen in the course of the month, allowing for much more sunshine to hit the Amalfi coast. May 1 is the shortest day with 13.58 hours of daylight, while May 31 is the longest day with 14.54 daylight hours.
