On average however, Sardinia experiences a high of 15°C during the month of February, with an average low of 7°C.

The second month of the year brings a slow improvement in temperatures in Sardinia, however the winter chill is still quite evident, with an average temperature of only 11°C.

Despite this, the rain has abated a little, with only 14mm, compared to last month's rainy season average of 18mm, and affecting 13 days within the month to some degree.

The sun shines for around 5 hours per day, meaning getting out an exploring the countryside is entirely possible, however swimming is best left until the warmer months, as you can expect an average sea temperature of only around 14°C.

    Jazz Hotel

Sardinia's choice of accommodation is wide-reaching and covers everything from family run B&Bs, to large five star hotels. Obviously it all depends on which resort or city you're staying in, but if you're basing yourself in the north of the island during the off season, perhaps in Olbia, then Jazz Hotel is a great choice. This is a modern B&B establishment, which is very close to the beach and amenities.

    Catalunya Hotel

If you're in Alghero in the north, then you have plenty of choice, and Catalunya Hotel offers the perfect base, with different board options, and close proximity to Maddalena Tower and Piazza Civica.

    Grande Baia

Perhaps you're staying in San Teodoro, in which case Grande Baia is the best option, overlooking the picturesque, wild beach of Great Bay.

    Sardinia Beaches For February

    Santa Teresa

A romantic stroll along a wild beach during the winter months is the ideal way to celebrate Valentine's Day, and one of the most stunning is Santa Teresa, located in the north of the island. Here you will find amazing views across the Straits of Bonifacio, right over to Capo Testa in the west of the town.

There is nothing more dramatic than a wild beach during the winter, and photography is particularly good at this time of year.

    Bars And Restaurants

    Frades

The month of love is ideal for a delicious Italian meal in beautiful Sardinia, and if you're spending your time in exclusive Porto Cervo, then Frades is the ideal choice for your special meal. Here you will find rustic, authentic Italian dishes, with Spanish tapas thrown in for good measure.

Things To Do In Sardinia In February

    Bruncu Spina Resort

You may have an image in your head of Sardinia just being a sunshine island, perfect for summer beach fun, and whilst that's true, there are many winter activities you can enjoy when the temperatures aren't quite as high. Sardinia does have ski resorts, which make it the perfect choice for a little shoop-shooping during the winter months. You do have the option of a few, however Bruncu Spina resort is a popular choice.

    Skiing

The nearest airport to here is Cagliari, so you could easily combine a few days in the city with a little ski fun. This is Sardinia's second largest mountain, located in the Gennargentu range, and is the only resort on the island which has a good blend of downhill skiing and a large ski lift. This is perfect for intermediates, however there are a few runs for beginners, and a few more for the more experienced skiers out there. Because this is in the centre of the island, you can span out in either direction and explore further.

    Hiking

If you prefer to keep your feet on something less cold and white, then walking is also a very popular winter time activity. The coast offers plentiful set trails, and this is actually a great time to see some of the summer resorts out of season, such as Costa Smeralda and Alghero, with wild, untamed beaches during the winter months. If you prefer to get a little higher in altitude, you could go back to the mountains, where you will also find marked trails, however do remember to check the weather in this regions as it is possible to snow. The Supramonte and Gennargentu mountains offer breathtaking scenery on walks, as well as Bronze Age archaeological sites along the way.

    Shrove Tuesday Carnival

Sardinia always seems to have a celebration of some kind going on, and February is no different. The Shrove Tuesday Carnival happens right across the island, and this is a three day event which ends on Shrove Tuesday itself, with dancing, fancy dress, local cuisine and sweets for the children. This is a great way to get involved in local Sardinian life.

    Sa Sartiglia

On top of this, head to Oristano at the end of the month to catch Sa Sartiglia, an equestrian tournament with plenty of history behind it.
