Although the chance of rainfall is slightly increased from September, it's not so much that it should spoil your holiday in October. If you're not bothered about the quieter atmosphere and want to take advantage of cheap prices, October is a great month to visit Santorini or other places in Greece like Corfu Town.


    At this time of year, the average temperature for the island starts off at 22°C on October 1st and gradually drops down to 18°C by October 31st. Daily highs and daily lows change in the same way, falling from 25°C to 20°C and from 19°C to 16°C, respectively, as the month develops.

    With average temperatures like this, you'll need to bring a mixture of cool and warm clothing in order to stay comfortable whilst on holiday. Make sure you bring plenty of light and airy clothing, beachwear and swimming gear for during the daytime, as well as a thin jacket in case its especially cold on an evening. Whatever the weather forecast is, remember to bring enough suntan lotion and a pair of sunglasses so your holiday isn't ruined by heatstroke or sunburn.

    Although it only happens on rare occasions, temperatures have been known to fall below 13°C and rise above 27°C in Santorini in October. In recent times, the hottest October day ever recorded on the island saw temperatures rise up to 33°C.     Make the most of the warm sea water temperatures and spend the day at Exo Gialos Beach. Found just a short drive away from Fira, this beach is made up of fine dark sand mixed with small pebbles, so make sure you bring water shoes or flip flops to protect your feet. The dark blue sea is normally calm and fairly shallow, making it perfect for children and unconfident swimmers to enjoy. 


    One of the island's most famous beaches, Perissa is one place you can't afford to pass up a visit to during your Santorini holiday. Made up of a 7-kilometre stretch of dark sands and crystal clear waters, the beach is also known for a striking rock called Mesa Vouno which juts out into the water and glistens in the dark. The adjoining village has plenty to offer in the way of tourist facilities including restaurants, shops, bars, cafes and tavernas.

    Families and couples who want to try the local cuisine should consider dining at Pirouni. Located in Firostefani, this restaurant features fantastic sea views which seem to stretch on for miles.     Folklore Museum of Santorini

    The Folklore Museum of Santorini is a historic attraction worthy of a visit during your holiday. Located between Fira and Vourvoulos, this museum is a great place to learn all about the history and culture of the local people through various displays. Some of the most popular exhibits include a typical cave house, traditional winery, cavern, workshops, art gallery, historical archives, landscaped garden, chapel and photo gallery. Whether you're interested in learning how the locals make wine or want to see how they lived hundreds of years ago, this museum is a great place to while away a few hours.

    Santorini Donkey

    Another family-friendly option is to take a ride with Santorini Donkey, which offers a more traditional way of getting about the island. Comprising a number of different routes on both horse and donkey, visitors can choose between treks along the beach or to meander through the villages of Oia and Fira. All you need to do is send an email, pay a small deposit and away you go. 

    Tomato Industrial Museum

    If you're beset with an overcast day at some point during your visit then head to the Tomato Industrial Museum, which forms the backbone of the island's arts community.
