What's the Weather Like in Santorini in August

Just like July, August is one of the busiest months of the year to visit SantoriniGreece. During this month, high summer temperatures, a low probability of rainfall and almost constant sunshine attracts huge numbers of families and couples alike. If you can travel outside the school holidays and don't like crowds, you're best off skipping August and visiting Santorini at the beginning of July or the end of September when the crowds will be smaller and the prices will be cheaper.

Temperature

Throughout this month, the average temperature for Santorini starts off at 27°C on August 1st and slowly cools down until it reaches 25.5°C by August 31st. Daily highs and daily lows change in the same fashion, falling from 30°C to 28°C and from 24°C to 23°C, respectively, as the month progresses. Hotter parts of Greece include Lefkada.

With average temperatures this high, you won't need to pack anything warmer than beachwear in order to stay comfortable. Make sure you bring plenty of light and airy clothing with you for the daytime, as well as enough swimming gear for when you want to cool off in the sea or the swimming pool.

A thin jumper or cardigan might come in handy on an evening, in case the temperatures are cooler than expected. Even if you don't normally burn, it's worth bringing a pair of sunglasses and some suntan lotion, too, in order to avoid suffering from sunburn or heatstroke during your holiday.

Although it only happens on rare occasions, temperatures can sometimes rise above 32°C or fall below 21°C in Santorini at this time of year. Vylchada Beach

When you approach the beach, you'll see that it is split up into two sections the side to your left is for regular sunbathing and the side to your right is for nude sunbathing.

The bay is made up of dark sands that stretch on for what seems like miles, providing you with plenty of room to lie down your towel, even in the busy summer months. If you wish, you can pay a small fee in return for using the sun loungers and parasols for the day. Whilst the sea is normally calm, the waves can get a bit rough as they break on the shore, so make sure you stay aware when you're in the water.

Monolithos Beach

Families on holiday with young children should consider spending the day at Monolithos Beach. Situated 9km away from Fira, this bay is made up of dark, fine sands that gently slope into shallow waters, providing the ideal conditions for adults to swim and for children to play in.

Thanks to the shallow depth of the sea, waves are practically non-existent here, which makes it even better for the little ones to enjoy. You'll find all the usual beach facilities available here, including sun loungers and shades which are available to hire, numerous bars and restaurants nearby, children's play area, volleyball courts and basketball courts.

Vegetarians struggling to find somewhere decent to eat should think about dining at Tranquilo. Things to do in Santorini in August

Oia Village

Santorini is famed for its incredible sunsets and one of the best places to see them is in Oia. There is a number of different tours which you can join if you want to be taken straight to the best spot, or you can explore the site yourself and decide where you'd like to watch it. There are loads of bars boasting seafront locations which provide the ideal place from which to watch the sunset, but if they're all full you can head to the coast for just as good a view. However you decide to watch the sunset, make sure you bring a camera so you can capture the image forever.

Santorini Water Park

Cool off from the summer sun by spending a day at the Santorini Water Park. Located at Perissa beach, this water park features a number of clean swimming pools and water slides suitable for adults and children alike. There are plenty of sun loungers available for the adults to use whilst the children have the time of their lives in the playground, too. Additional services and facilities available onsite include lifeguards, pool bar, restaurant and gift shop. Keep in mind that August will be the busiest time of the year to visit the water park, so make sure you get there early if you want to get a good spot and ride on the slides before the queues get too long.

Palea Kameni

If you're up for an excursion during your holiday in Santorini, how about visiting Palea Kameni?
