Temperature

The weather in the month of June in San Sebastian is typified by ever rising temperatures interspersed with rain. Though the average temperature across the entire month equates to approximately 18°C, fluctuations through the day and the night and increases as the month goes on mean June can be a glorious time to visit.

Peak highs in June will average 22°C with most days in the month experiencing warmth in the low 20's at least. Historically, the temperature in June has reached well into the 30's on some days, with the hottest day in June recorded in 2003 at a very balmy 38°C.

Thanks to the maritime climate, San Sebastian will not be as dry as other regions further south such as Barcelona or Valencia. But with more daily sunshine hours than any other month of the year, there are plenty of warm, bright days throughout the summer.

Based directly on Zurriola beach, this surf styled accommodation caters for surfers of all abilities. For the best view of the beach book one of the six rooms that boasts its own sea view. But even if you miss out, the other four rooms have a spectacular view of the Urgull Mountain ready to be enjoyed. The hotel is surrounded by surfer bars and shops. Or you can enjoy the short walk to La Concha and the main town of San Sebastian. When the sea isn't inviting, there are even language lessons in the basement. No wonder so many guests go back to Hotel Punta Monpas over and over again.

If you want to enjoy San Sebastian in the most economical way possible, why not try camping at Igueldo. This well-equipped campsite offers everything you need in terms of supporting facilities. And even if you don't bring your own tent or campervan, there are still 'bungalows' (static caravans) for hire on site. A full supermarket, restaurant and playground are available. And there are plans to build a swimming pool in 2016. The site is well maintained, with plenty of space and provision for both wet and dry weather. And when you are ready to venture back into the main town, it is only a short drive or bus stop away. It's a great way to visit San Sebastian without being tied to the traditional type of accommodation.

San Sebastian Beach for June

The world famous La Concha beach is an experience not to be missed by anyone visiting San Sebastian. As one of the most popular beaches in the world, La Concha is never going to be quiet in July. But the beautiful long stretch of white sand, the city views and the wealth of different personalities that come to visit ensure this is an experience of a life time. Take a picnic on cooler days or sit and watch the sunset at night. Surfers, runners, roller skaters, buskers and people watchers all flock to this area whether they are up and active or sat in one of the many restaurants or coffee shops. It's everything you would want from a very stylish beach, and it's all available at La Concha.

Ondarreta is a far more family orientated beach in San Sebastian. Situated between Monte Igeldo and the Palacio Miramar gardens, the 500 meter long beach is ready for Volleyball, Football, Beach Tennis or just taking in some sun. When the weather is less favourable, the beach becomes a haven for surfers and body boarders ready to hit the waves. And with the warm sea temperatures in July, Ondarreta beach is a great place to be.

Bars and Restaurants

Anyone that enjoys a drop of gin, has to make a stop at La Gintoneria Donostiarra. Situated in the Gros barrio, there are more than 120 different types of gin in this little bar. And that's before you even consider the other ranges of cocktails and drinks on offer. Mixology is definitely an art at La Gintoneria Donostiarra. It can take more than five minutes to blend a single drink. But the wait is definitely worth it, with every beverage, whether gin based or not, tasting absolutely divine. For pre dinner drinks or a night out with friends, head over to La Gintoneria Donostiarra for a wonderful evening.

Frequent visitors to Borda Berri suggest this tapas bar offers some of the best pintxos in San Sebastian, and they may well be right. Octopus, Veal, Pork Rib and Steak are amongst some of the specialties, all waiting for you to sample. In the popular month of June, don't expect Borda Berri to be quiet to say the least. But for a lively place to enjoy some good food and some good drinks, it's the ideal place to go.

For a tasty late breakfast or a delicious lunch, the Cafe-Bar Koh Tao is always popular. The service is friendly, the menu is broad and the prices are incredible, especially for San Sebastian. This is a wonderful place for travellers or families on a budget, especially when they want to savour some traditional Basque cuisine. Pop in for a pastry and a delicious cup of coffee. Things to do in San Sebastian in June

Any trip to San Sebastian has to be accompanied by a visit to Parte Vieja. This beautiful town offers activities day and night, whether it is looking round the wonderful architecture or visiting some of the many bars and restaurants in the area. The locals are welcoming and the range of places to eat is simply astounding. From high quality pintxos to haute cuisine, there is something for everyone. And for the seasonal shopper, there are a range of artefacts and crafts waiting to come home with you. Soak in some Spanish sun and let the world go by. For people watching in style, there's nowhere quite like Parte Vieja.

For traditional entertainment, take a day out at the Monte Igeuldo Amusement Park. Take the funicular ride up to Monte Igeuldo to enjoy the range of attractions from the old school Cantabric Sea roller coaster through to the Labyrinth Maze and Pony rides. Even when you've finished with the attractions, the unfettered view of La Concha beach is the perfect location for a quiet drink or picnic. Monte Igueldo Amusement Park is the perfect place for some family fun, the way it used to be.
