What's the Weather like in San Sebastian in February

Temperature

While many regions do not see that much of improvement in weather conditions from January to February, in San Sebastian the difference is notable.

February offers a much drier climate than the previous month. And though 130mm of rain is still expected to fall, this is a just over three quarters of what can be experienced in the month before. And as the number of days that are expected to have rain only falls from 13 to 12 days in the month, it means that, when rain does come, it is much lighter than the downpours that are more common earlier in the year.

February is considered the last month of winter in this Spanish coastal region. And with the start of spring also comes warmer weather. Average temperatures of 10°C ensure San Sebastian reaches double figures in February. And though average lows can see temperatures fall as low as 6°C during the night, daily highs of 13°C make this a far milder climate than most of Northern Europe.

Historically temperatures have reached as high as 25°C in the middle of February, with the hottest temperature experienced in February 1990. Conversely 1986 saw the temperature falling as low as minus 6°C, proving once again that the temperamental maritime weather is very hard to forecast.

Sunshine Hours

Statistically there is no change in the number of daily sunshine hours experienced in San Sebastian in February. However with eleven hours of sun expected every day, even when the weather is cooler, this is still a wonderful place to stay.

Average Sea Temperature

For beach goers, this is more of a time to walk across the beach, rather than soak up any lasting sun. And with sea temperatures dropping to their lowest annual temperature of just 12°C, only the very brave are daring enough to enter the water.

February in San Sebastian is a time of new beginnings and a transition from winter into spring. New buds, beautiful wildlife and fantastic views are on offer, but protection from the wind and the rain is essential.

Just don't be fooled by the laid back atmosphere of this bar/restaurant. Every effort is made to ensure that the dishes here are second to none. The helpful staff will provide in-depth translations of the menu and ensure any dietary requirements are fulfilled there is even an additional menu for those that want to eat meat. As soon as the doors open in the second half of February everyone wants to enjoy the tapas and pinxtos at Zazpi. It's a place for connoisseurs and those that like a good flavour, with a whole lot of beer related chat too.

Things to do in San Sebastian in March

Take in the sights and sounds of the exceptional Iglesia de Santa Maria del Coro during your stay in San Sebastian. This 18th century Baroque style Christian church is beautiful inside and out, offering a combination of outstanding religious architecture and the chance to take some exceptional photographs. When the church was built it was intended to draw the attention of everyone around, and to this day it still does. But be warned, this church is still fully functional and if you arrive when a service is on, you will have to wait until it is finished to be able to gain entry.

The Albaola Sea Factory of the Basques  is a truly unique place to visit when staying in San Sebastian. This maritime museum showcases historical boat making processes and resurrects many of the long lost skills involved in this traditional art. See first-hand how the skilled craftsman are rebuilding the Nao San Juan whaling ship which was sunk in the nineteenth century. From choosing the raw materials to launching the finished product, the guided tour is incredibly informative. And when you're done, a quick trip to the neighbouring cider factory will give you time to contemplate all that you have seen and done.
