Things to Do in Riviera Maya in October 

Mayan Ruins

History and culture enthusiasts won't want to miss the opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum. You'll find plenty to see and do here, including exploring royal burial sites, ancient houses and even a pyramid. There is also a tour available for visitors to join, led by a qualified guide, eager to show you the most interesting parts of the ruins.

Although there are no leaflets or brochures onsite, there are small signs in front of each ruin offering basic information in a number of languages. If you'd like to pick up a souvenir of your visit, there is a selection of shops and stalls offering handmade Mexican goods, as well as several bars and cafes.

Hekab Be Biblioteca de Akumal

Hekab Be Biblioteca de Akumal in Akumal is a great place to spend a couple of hours, whatever the weather. Run mainly by donations, this library features a number of Spanish and English books available to both borrow and buy for a small price. This establishment has recently been renovated to include new shelving, colourful murals and a basketball court. One of the most popular sections of the library is the Yucatan Maya zone, where you can study the Mayan language.

Dates for the diary

Xcaret day of the dead takes place towards the end of the month, usually beginning on October 30th, in an event which is full of things for the whole family to enjoy. Adults and children alike can take part in workshops, crafts, theatrical performances, gift giving, puppetry, storytelling, parades, songs, dancing and games. This event is also packed with cultural activities, making it a great opportunity to learn more about the Mayan people and their ways.

The Turtle Festival also takes place in October to raise awareness about the importance of conserving sea turtles. Held in Akumal and Tulum, this event is full of things to see and do, including lectures, parades, competitions, parades, music and dancing. There are all sorts of activities to entertain children, teenagers and adults, making it a popular family day out.
