The weather is still enjoyable in September and it's actually an ideal time to visit as all the crowds have gone, it's off-season. Prices will go down for tourists but the weather is still agreeable. The days have gradually become darker and darker meaning the magical Northern Lights are visible again.

The Northern Lights

The Northern Lights are a must see in Iceland and if you're visiting in March you're in with a chance of seeing them. They are formed from electrically charged particles from the sun colliding with gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere; this causes bright, colourful lights that practically dance in the sky. Seeing the lights is both magical and unique for all ages. Look out for white, green, pink and purple colours in the sky and don't forget your camera or phone to capture your special experience.

Volcano Thrihnukagigur

Volcano Thrihnukagigur is dormant and last erupted over 4,000 years ago, with no indication of erupting in the near future. The name of the volcano translates to 'Three Peaks Crater'. All three craters are prominent landmarks, standing against the sky on the highland edge. Inside the volcano is what you'll be interested in seeing - tours of the unique natural phenomenon enable you to see the magma chamber.

Haifoss Waterfall

Although Haifoss Waterfall is around 2 hours from central Reykjavik it's definitely worth the journey, for the spectacular views. The waterfall is 122m high and is situated in Fossa river, a spring water tributary of the glacial river jórsá, Iceland's longest river.
