October Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather like in Rethymnon in October

Humidity

Throughout October, the Rethymnon weather remains warm and bright. Humidity levels do rise when compared to the previous months of August and September. However with levels usually averaging 70%, the air is still very comfortable.

Temperature

Thanks to its closer proximity to the African coastline, Rethymnon is far warmer at this time of year than some of the more northerly Greek IslandsAverage temperatures of 19°C are usual for October in Rethymnon. Though average highs of 22°C ensure there are still many beach days still available in the month. Record highs of up to 38°C were recorded in October 1984 in Rethymnon.

The nights will get a little chillier in October than they have been in previous months. But this can be a refreshing change for the many residents of the area. And with average temperatures recorded at 15°C during the darker hours, there is still plenty of opportunity to enjoy the evenings in Rethymnon.

Rainfall

The only true indicator that winter is on the way is thanks to the level of rainfall in Rethymnon in October. While the summer months can experience no rainfall at all, October is the start of the wetter season. During this month up to six days are likely to experience some sort of rainfall. And while this is insignificant compared with the downpours experienced at home in October, 53mm of rain is likely to be more water than most people will have seen in Rethymnon for the previous four months.

Sunshine

Rethymnon enjoys sunshine all year round, so it is no surprise that visitors to the area will still receive up to 9 hours of daily sunshine during this month. Just make sure you have a light jacket or jumper for the evenings and any trip to Rethymnon will be time well spent.

Hotels in Rethymnon in October

Marino's Beach Hotel Apartments

Catch the last of the summer sun with a stay at Marino's Beach Hotel Apartments. These well-equipped apartments offer excellent value for off peak travellers that are looking for a bargain. They also provide excellent long term accommodation for those that want to avoid a cold winter. Local shops and tavernas provide you with plenty of facilities. However there is a bus stop near to the hotel which will take you the few minutes into Rethymnon town. With its own fresh water pool situated directly on the beach, you couldn't ask for more.

Palazzo Vechhio

For a truly exclusive trip to Rethymnon, stay at the Palazzo Vecchio. The spacious rooms are clean and fresh and with the hotel situated directly in the old town, step outside and everything is ready and waiting. A wealth of beautiful restaurants surround the hotel and the staff are always on hand to give recommendations or advice. Then finish the evening with a drink by the illuminated pool. When you stay at Palazzo Vecchio you will want to savour every minute.

Minos Mare Royal

As the summer season comes to an end, now is the time to grab yourself a last minute getaway at Minos Mare Royal. This luxury hotel gets completely booked up through the main holiday season. But if you are lucky there will be some availability for an October break. Outstanding facilities, incredible service and an exceptional glass floored bar which is sited over the swimming pool provide a unique treat. Enjoy a meal in the restaurant or sample the local cuisine in the neighbouring town. Everything is on hand to create a truly memorable stay.

Hit the Beach

Misiria Beach

When the weather starts to cool, so does the sea temperature and the beaches become less frantic, creating the ideal time to visit Misiria beach. In the peak summer months, this beach is simply crowded with people. And though popular with tourists, it doesn't give beach goers the opportunity to truly appreciate its beauty. But travel the 5 km from Rethymnon to visit this beach in October and you won't be disappointed. A long stretch of beautifully sandy beach is supplied with more than enough sunbeds and parasols to go around. Just make sure you take an extra layer or two. If the northerly wind bites, you may have to take refuge in one of the tavernas along its path.

Bali Beach

Just like its namesake, Bali Beach has a rugged setting that offers natural beauty to all who visit. But unlike the real Bali, this beach is surrounded by monasteries, offering a peculiarly tranquil effect. The luscious sandy beach ensures this is a very popular destination in peak summer months. And thanks to its natural creation, it remains popular into the lower season when snorkelers and divers discover the beauty that lies under the surface.

Bars and Restaurants

Prima Plora

During July and August it is almost impossible to chance a table at Prima Plora due to the sheer popularity of this top quality restaurant. But in October you are in with a much better chance of securing a prime position. Choose from the many fresh fish dishes and exemplary local delicacies which offer some of the best flavours that Rethymnon has to offer. Wash it down with a choice from the well-stocked wine list, all sited just meters away from the sea.

Nyn and Aei

For authentic Cretan food in an equally authentic setting, head down to Nyn and Aei. Whether you want a quick bite at lunch or a fully catered meal, the flavours in the dishes are simply exceptional. The only thing that will surprise you more is the cheap bill that arrives when you're done. Opt for the house speciality platter for a true taste of high quality Greek cuisine. Nothing is ever too much trouble at Nyn and Aei, which is why so many guests will keep going back.

Raki Ba Raki

Immerse yourself in Greek tradition with a trip to Raki Ba Raki. From tapas style finger bites to a full blown meal, this authentic Greek eatery won't let you down. Fresh ingredients and outstanding skill ensure every dish tastes as good as it looks. The mix of visitors and residents prove that this is a restaurant everyone wants to eat in. And with good portions and even better prices, we bet you'll be back for more.

Things to Do in Rethymnon in October

Paraschakis Family Olive Oil Factory

For anyone who appreciates the quality of genuine olive oil, a trip to Paraschakis Family Olive Oil Factory is a must. The incredibly entertaining tour guide will show you how the process of creating olive oil has changed over the years, and what you should look out for to make sure you are buying the very best. Everyone that works there truly loves what they do, and that enthusiasm comes through in the way they welcome their guests. And, of course, there's the option to buy some of the oil at the end of the trip. It may well turn out to be the best olive oil you've ever tasted.

Venetian Harbour

Don't leave Rethymnon without visiting the Venetian Harbour in the old part of the town. Visit at lunchtime for a baptism of fire as touts try to encourage you to sample their wares inside the vast array of restaurants. Or visit later in the day for a more tranquil setting and a beautiful afternoon. The harbour itself is framed by tavernas and small local shops where you can pick up a souvenir or two from your trip. Walk along the sea wall and into the old lighthouse or talk to the many fishermen that still moor here.  Any trip has to be finished with a cool glass of a local brew to take in the outstanding views.
