Protaras Weather September Averages, Greece
What's the weather like in Protaras in September
Despite the fact that September is still classed as summer in Protaras, Cyprus, the temperatures do come down just a little, making it the perfect time to travel.
The average temperature sits around 25°C, however the high can reach 30°C quite easily. Night-time is thankfully cooler due to the slow passing of summer, at around 19°C, coming out of the 20s, yet sunlight is still present in abundance, at around 12 hours per day on average.
You still don't need to worry about rain for another month or so.
The sea temperature is certainly warm enough to enjoy plentiful water-sports yet again, at around 28°C. Head to Konnos Beach or Fig Tree Bay to enjoy paddle boats, water-skiing, fishing, parasailing, swimming, scuba diving, and of course, good old sunbathing.
Protaras Hotels for September
Summer continues to mean plenty of accommodation on offer in Protaras, including the great value Crystal Springs Beach Hotel, a great choice for families and couples, right on the beach, with themed entertainment evenings, and delicious restaurants to try. If you don't fancy venturing out into Protaras for your evening's entertainment, you can stay in and watch a show. Alternatively, Smartline Protaras offers a hotel in a slightly quieter area, about 2km from the resort centre, but has everything you need within the grounds, including the relaxing Windmill Tavern for an evening poolside drink.
If you prefer self-catering then try Flisvos Beach Apartments, literally 50m from the beach and shore-line. These modern apartments look expensive, but actually have a relatively low price tag. Decorated in tasteful white wooden décor, you are on the doorstep of Protaras' many restaurants and bars for your evening's entertainment.
Bars and Restaurants
Of course, Italian food is famous the world over, and just because you're in Cyprus doesn't mean you have to miss your fix! Marcello's Italian Restaurant is often thought to be one of the best on the island, with food cooked as though you are in Rome. Try the risotto balls for a true taste sensation.
You might feel like being in China for the evening, in which case head to Wan Chai for great value Chinese dishes with plenty of flavour, before wandering over to Waves Cocktail Bar to wash it all down with a cocktail or three.
The balmy September evenings are certainly cool enough to enjoy the night-time festivities, yet warm enough to not feel a chill.
Things to do in Protaras in September
Heading over to Ayia Napa during the last week of September will treat you to the Ayia Napa Festival, a celebration of everything historical and cultural about the area, with folk dances, theatre, crafts, and general Cypriot fun. The main festival is centred around Seferi Square, which is picturesque in itself. Check out the town whilst you're there, as well as one of the 14 beautiful beaches. The night-life here is also legendary, so perhaps stay for the evening and check it out for yourself.
Whilst you're on your travels, September heralds the start of wine season in Limassol, so head to the municipal gardens and sample a few different types of vino, enjoying the music and performances whilst you sip! The pleasant temperatures make for the perfect excuse to sit out on the grass and enjoy the sunshine.
If you love views, then head off on one of the walking trails that call Protaras home. The first takes around three hours and will take you from Konnos Beach, to Profitis Elias Chapel, or vice versa. The views from the top are amazing. Alternatively, the shorter trail takes around 45 minutes to an hour and is a circular route from Agioi Anargyroi Chapel. On your way check out the flowers and natural habitat, including the juniper plant, which is used to make incense. This is certainly a trail for nature and wildlife lovers.
It is also possible to hire a VIP catamaran for the day, and have an experienced crew wait on you hand and foot. This might be a slightly costlier activity, but it is certainly one to remember, and you could check out some of the best snorkelling spots as you go, taking advantage of the warm September waters around the coastline.
