What's the weather like in August in Protaras

The August heat continues from July, with little respite forthcoming. Air conditioning in hotel rooms is an absolute must, as well as regular application of sun lotion during this extremely hot time.

    Sunshine Hours

Protaras enjoys a huge 14 hours of sun on average every day during August, with no rain at all. This is one of the busiest times in general, although most people can be found down at the beach, usually at Fig Tree Bay, to escape some of the heat, enjoying water-sports and the cooling breeze from the sea.

    Temperature

The average temperature in August is cited at 27°C, although the high hits 32°C, and the mercury tends to hover in the 30s for much of the month. Heatwaves can hit during August, just like in July, and can make temperatures soar for a short period of time.

    Sea Temperature

The low is around 21°C in the evening, reinforcing the need for air conditioning, and the pleasantly warm sea temperature of 28°C means time spent in the water is perfect for enjoying a relaxing summer break.

    Protaras Hotels for August

Most hotels in August are full, if not very close to it, and if you're seeking rest and relaxation then you may be better staying a little away from the resort centre. Adelais Bay Hotel is the perfect choice for quiet and tranquillity, located about 500m from Green Bay, in a quiet area, about 15 minutes away from the main resort of Protaras. If you're looking for a budget option on the other hand, then the Evalena Hotel Apartments are for you, close enough to the main action, but far enough away to not be disturbed by noise.

Luxury may be on your to-do list, in which case Louis Althea Kalamies Luxury Villas should be considered. These private, luxury apartments are a perfect choice for a special holiday, perhaps a honeymoon, as well as the Lantiana Gardens ApartHotel, which is very modern, and situated only 50m from the main Protaras strip.

    Bars and Restaurants

During the warm August evenings you need to pick a restaurant which will give you the best food and best conditions to enjoy it in, and Ocean Basket is the perfect choice. Overlooking the ocean, you will get that all-important sea breeze, perfect for warm evenings, as well as delicious food, including a large range of delicious seafood options. Alternatively, for something a little more authentic, Andama Tavern is a popular go-to, with twists on traditional favourites, such as beer battered haloumi. You can choose your own meze here, which is great for picky eaters.

George Zefkas & Sons is an ever-popular Protaras establishment, a family run restaurant with a real story behind it, which the owner will certainly be only too happy to tell you about! The food here is amazing, cheap, and the evening's entertainment is enough to make you stay for a few drinks too.

If you're holidaying in Protaras in August, make the most of the heat before it diminishes over the coming months, however remember sun safety at all times!

Things to do in Protaras in August

Whether you're travelling as a family or not, a waterpark day out is a great idea when the temperatures are soaring, and you have a choice of two when in Protaras. You can either stay in resort and head to the smaller park, opposite the Paschalia Hotel, with plentiful wave pools, flumes, and water rafting fun, or you can jump on the bus to Ayia Napa, to Europe's biggest waterpark, WaterWorld. This themed park is certainly great fun regardless of your age.

Alternatively, Ocean Aquarium Park offers plenty of shade from the burning sun, and countless species of fish and crocodiles to visit, as well as an on-site café for a welcome refreshment. Perhaps visit here during the peak sun hours of 12-3pm, to take away the risk of sun-related health problems. The park is between Protaras and Paralimni, which is a great place to visit for a day out of the main resort.

The focus during August is on activities which don't take too much effort in the heat, and the Yellow Boat Cruise ticks those boxes completely. Leaving Pernera Harbour at around 10am each day, you take part in a leisurely cruise around the coastline, with your lunch included in the price of your trip.

You could also take part in a spot of fishing if the mood takes you, with sea fishing boat tours available from excursion vendors. Tuna fishing Cyprus is a good option for anyone who enjoys this popular sport, however if you prefer to stay on the beach, then Fig Tree Bay is your beach of choice for plentiful water-sports, including jet-skiing, and parasailing.
