Alcron

Gourmands won't want to miss the chance to dine at Alcron one of the few restaurants in Prague with a Michelin star. The lunch and dinner a la carte menus are inspired by Czech and European cuisine and feature classics such as ceviche, veal carpaccio, potato-truffle gnocchi, pan-fried duck and Scottish salmon, as well as French cheeses, handmade chocolates and panna cotta for dessert.

Three-, four- and five-course meals are available. Weekend brunch is prepared right in front of your eyes, with dishes such as Black Forest ham, roast duck and salmon carpaccio all made to order in stations scattered throughout the restaurant. Alcron also hosts cooking classes for adults, children and groups throughout the week, led by the head chef. 

Hemingway Bar

If you're in the mood for a good cocktail, pop into Hemingway Bar. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway, this bar focuses on some of his favourite drink ingredients, namely rum, absinthe and Champagne so much so that Hemingway Bar claims to have the most extensive range of absinthe in the whole of the Czech Republic.

Here you'll also find more than 200 varieties of rum, some of which you can enjoy as part of a rum tasting experience if you pre-book, as well as a great selection of Champagnes, including some well-known brands and some hardly-known names from small producers. Despite all this, Hemingway Bar is best known for its cocktails, made by experienced bartenders with ultra premium spirits and fresh fruit juices.

K the Two Brothers

Satisfy your curry craving by spending an evening at K the Two Brothers. This restaurant specialises in authentic Indian cuisine, with classic dishes such as tandoori kebabs, rogan josh curries, tikka masala curries and bhuna curries all appearing on the menu along with traditional side dishes, such as rice, raita and naan bread.

Traditional Indian desserts, including variations of ice cream and rice pudding, are also available, as well as a vast selection of spirits, cocktails, wines, Champagnes, beers, soft drinks and coffees.

Things to do in Prague in February

Prague Zoo

Families with children won't want to miss the chance to visit Prague Zoo. Open daily from 9am until 4pm during February, this zoo is home to a huge number of exotic animals, including gorillas, komodo dragons, polar bears, camels, kangaroos, tigers, aardvarks, penguins and hippos.

Some of the zoo's highlights include the Bororo Reserve with children's play area, giant salamander house, elephant valley, Indonesian jungle and the children's zoo where you can interact directly with some of the zoo's residents. There are several full-service restaurants, fast food kiosks and picnic areas throughout the zoo, as well as gift shops where you can buy souvenirs and help fund Prague Zoo's animal conservation projects.

Old Town Square

The Old Town Square is one of the most-visited attractions in Prague's Old Town. This square dates back to the 12th century and is full of historical attractions, including Romanesque, baroque and gothic buildings which line the space previously used as a market, the Prague Astronomical Clock, Old Town Hall Tower, Tyn Church and the St Nicholas Church.

In the centre of the square you'll find the Jan Haus statue which was erected in July 1915 to mark the 500th anniversary of the day he was burned at the stake. The best thing to do here is to climb to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower and soak up the views of the square below then head back down and take it easy in a local café whilst people-watching.

Lobkowicz Palace

The only building in the Prague Castle complex privately owned, the Lobkowicz Palace is a great place to spend a cold February day in Prague. Here you'll find the Lobkowicz Collections the largest privately owned art collection in the Czech Republic which features paintings from famous masters spread out amongst 22 galleries.

Some of the highlights include work by Velázquez, Cranach, Brueghel the Elder and Canaletto, as well as a display of royal and family portraits, rare decorative arts which date back to the 16th and 20th centuries, manuscripts from Mozart and Beethoven, and fine porcelain displays.

Visitors are given a free audio guide on arrival which is narrated by the Chief Curator and two generations of the Lobkowicz family. The Lobkowicz Palace is open daily from 10am to 6pm and you'll receive a discount if you buy your tickets online in advance.

Jewish Museum

To learn more about the history of Jews in Prague and around the world, spend a day at the Jewish Museum. Open daily from 9am until 4.30pm in February, this museum was established in 1906, making it one of the oldest Jewish museums in Europe.

Inside you'll find six Jewish monuments the Maisel Synagogue, Pinkas Synagogue, Old Jewish Cemetery, Klausen Synagogue, Ceremonial Hall and Spanish Synagogue each of which is full of artefacts from synagogues around the world. There is also a newer Old-New Synagogue monument which still hosts religious ceremonies.

If you're short on time, the most popular monuments to visit are the Old-New Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery, although queues tend to be shortest for the Spanish Synagogue. In addition to the permanent Jewish artefact exhibitions, the museum also hosts temporary displays and events, so be sure to check the website to see what's on during your trip to Prague.
