February Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Port el Kantaoui in February

Temperature

February confidently takes its place as one of the chilliest winter months in Port El Kantaoui, with an average temperature of 13°C and six rainy days. It isn't all doom and gloom though, the cooler winter months make it an ideal time to escape the crowds of tourists, whilst capitalising on the glut of cut-price winter travel deals. If you truly are a sun seeker, we recommend postponing your holiday plans way off until June, where average highs north of 30°C are the norm and the prospect of rain but a distant memory.

Getting down to the nitty gritty of  February's weather patterns, the month commences with a comfortable daily average temperature of 12.1°C, gently rising to 12.7°C midway through the month, before dropping marginally to 12.3°C.

You'll be able to bask in the comfortable daytime highs of around 18°C, with night-time averages bringing minimum temperatures down to around 8°C. So really it comes down to packing a varied suitcase, with an optimistic nod to warm weather, complete with a cautionary coat or two.

Rolling back the years the highest recent temperature in February reached 30°C on 26 February 1995, with a lowest recorded temperature of 1°C on 1 February 1999. Of course these figures are the weather equivalent of Guinness world records and far from the norm that said, by all means feel free to keep the dream of 30°C alive!

Rain

Much like December and January, February is subject to an average of six rainy days per month. Taking things down to the millimetres, February receives an average of 66 mm (2.6 inches) of rain fall, this is less than January's 45 mm (1.8 inches) and December's 75 mm (3.0 inches). So it's fair to say February and umbrellas go hand in hand in Port El Kantaoui.

Average Sunshine Hours

All is not lost though, with February faring better than its fellow winter months of January and December in terms of average sunshine. You'll get a very respectable average of eight hours of sun, making that all day camel safari a real possibility.

Humidity

The Mediterranean influence on the Ports climate means that certain months can get a little muggy.  The average daily relative humidity for February is around 72%, making it slightly less than January, which is the most humid month of the year at 74%. At 72% things can get quite uncomfortable, so bare this in mind if you really not  a fan of humid conditions.

Wind

Batten down the hatches, its wind time! Actually, things aren't that drastic in February in  Port El Kantaoui daily wind speeds come in at 16 km/h, equivalent to about 10 mph, or 9 knots (classed as a 'gentle breeze' on the Beaufort wind force scale). Going back through history, the maximum sustained wind speed for February in recent years has reached 93 km/h, that's equivalent to roughly 58 mph, or 50 knots (classed as a 'storm or whole gale' on the Beaufort wind force scale).

Average Sea Temperature

If you're planning on packing your swimming costume (and who can blame you), the February sea temperature averages around 15°C. It's fair to say that most would consider this bracing to put it lightly, but it's still possible, especially if you hire a wetsuit.

Port el Kantaoui Hotels in February

Sol Club Selima is an easy on the eye club/hotel in the heart of Port El Kantaoui. Super clean and on a superb stretch of beach, with the usual facilities you'd expect at a 4 star hotel.

Melia El Mouradi Palace is one of the most upmarket resorts in the area, boasting 480 double rooms and the usual facilities expected from a 5 star complex.

Iberostar Diar El Andalous is an all-inclusive hotel, surrounded by gardens and placed right on the beach front. It offers an impeccable service and has a wide range of entertainment for the whole family, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing family holiday in Tunisia.

Port el Kantaoui Beach for February

Undoubtedly February is hardly the ideal month to set about planning a beach holiday, however you still won't want to miss out on taking a stroll along the Ports sandy shore. The Ports beach is split into two sections, either side of the marina. Looking south you have a relatively quiet stretch of sandy beach, dotted with parasols and loungers, to the north you have a stretch of beach lined with luxury hotels. The north of the beach is largely divided into private sections of beach, each of which belong to the various hotels that line the shore.

Bars and Restaurants

A holiday in Port El Kantaoui is all about indulgence and the local restaurateurs and bar owners have certainly picked up on this. The resort is packed to the rafters with eateries, ranging from Mediterranean al fresco restaurants to aviation and formula 1 themed restaurants.

La Nouva Marina sits behind the port with an enviable view of the beach and municipal swimming pool. It puts on a varied spread, which includes pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes. The food and service has been noted as excellent and the alcohol prices are slightly less than average.

Like many of the Ports finest eateries La Daurade  can be found at the marina, this sophisticated restaurant serves a traditional fare, but also caters for a more traditional European palette. The service is friendly and although the prices are higher than some, your jaw shouldn't drop too much upon receiving the bill. Live music is also a regular occurrence, so make sure to pack your dancing shoes.

El Mouradi Club Kantaoui plays host to an eye watering four bars and a nightclub, so you can literally go on an all-night pub crawl without ever leaving the comfort of the complex.

Golf Residence Hotel is a 3 star establishment, situated 500 metres from the marina. It boasts two bars and a night club/disco where top local DJs play crowd pleasing favourites into the early hours.

You can find the 4 star Marhaba Palace at the heart of the marina. Here you'll find a lively nightclub with a generously sized dance floor and a lively bar to keep the party going.

For something entirely different why not look out for one of the many opportunities to take part in a night of mystery and romance with a typical Tunisian dinner and entertainment package. Enjoy a night of Bedouin dancers, acrobats and belly dancing.

Things to do in Port el Kantaoui in February

In terms of activities, the marina is definitely the hub of the resort, offering something to do both day and night.

If you fancy a flutter, Casino Europe is due to open in nearby Sousse by the end of 2014. The casino will offer traditional Games (BJ, Roulette, Poker and Baccarat) as well as Slot machines (including Video Poker). An Italian Fine Dining Restaurant and a live Show Theatre are also planned. It's worth mentioning that in Tunisia only Foreigners can get in the casino and gamble. A proof of ID is needed and we are informed that a Passport will be required to gain entry.

One of the most talked about holiday activities is the desert safaris at nearby GabesMatmata and Douz. The Sahara Explorer is a two day trip into the desert, visiting Matmata (Star Wars fame), Tozeur Oasis and El Jem's Roman amphitheatre.

In Port El Kantaoui, the easiest way of purchasing this excursion would be through your travel representative. If you do not have one, the only alternative would be to ask in your hotel or try to find a local agent who sells the trip. Either way, being such a popular activity, it shouldn't take too much effort before you find yourself atop a camel, re-enacting scenes from Laurence of Arabia.

There is a shopping centre and model 'souk' in Port El Kantaoui towards the marina, which is purpose made for tourists, making it ideal to pick up quintessential souvenir items. It's worth noting that prices in the Port can be slightly higher than other Tunisian destinations, so a bit of battering wouldn't go amiss. For an entirely more authentic experience, head to nearby Sousse and check out the Tunisian bazaar.
