    What's the Weather like in Playacar in February

    Situated just 40 minutes from Cancun, and overlooking nearby Cozumel, Playacar in Mexico is ideally located within driving distance of some of Mexico's biggest tourist hot spots. It's often thought of as a quieter alternative to the bustling Playa del Carmen.


    The weather in February is still pretty cool by Riviera Maya standards, although British travelers would be forgiven for thinking it's the middle of summer, with an average temperature of 23°C (about 73°F). The lows drop to an average of 20°C (around 68°F) and the highs get up to 28°C (about 82°F).

    The average temperatures for this month mean you'll want to pack warm-weather clothes like shorts, short-sleeve shirts, capris and flip flops. The average low is still pleasant, but some travelers will want a light jacket or sweater, especially if they'll be outside during the evening and nighttime hours.

    Average Sunshine Hours

    During your stay, you'll have an average of 8 hours of sunshine each day, more than enough time to get outside and explore the area. The chance of a sunny day is 19 percent.


    The chance of a windy day is 12 percent. The El Norte winds are still evident in February, creating fantastic watersports opportunities. Bring a hat or sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and wind, and some sunscreen to prevent sunburn.


    Rainfall is significantly less than January as the region edges towards its driest month. The average rainfall for this month is 56mm and the rain falls over 5 days in the month. On any given day, the chance of rain is 18 percent and the chance of a cloudy day is 12 percent.

    The average water temperatures stay steady, averaging 26°C (around 79°F). These temperatures are plenty warm for swimming, surfing and other watersports, as well as just sitting on the beach and soaking in the sun.

    The Encanto Paseo del Sol condominium resort is a good choice for large families and groups who want extra space. February is ideal for enjoying the swimming pool with fountain and kids play area and you're also only a five-minute walk from the beach.

    Inah Beach

    Inah Beach is the southernmost beach of Playacar and because of its remote location, is very secluded and private. Because it doesn't receive the protection from the island of Cozumel that the northern beaches do, the water can be rough, especially on windy days. The ocean temperatures are warm during February, averaging 26°C (around 79°F), so the water will still feel great for swimming when it is calm.

    Hong Kong Express

    For those who don't fancy getting dressed up after a day of extreme sporting, the casual Hong Kong Express restaurant, ideally situated on the Playacar ring road, serves up traditional Chinese cuisine ranging from homemade noodles to Cantonese chicken. Reservations are unnecessary, as the huge venue seats up to 500 diners.

    Oh Lala!

    Offering an intimate experience you don't get in many other restaurants, Oh Lala! restaurant in Playa del Carmen provides excellent food and superb service. The restaurant has only nine tables, including indoor and outdoor seating, and so you're guaranteed to get personalized attention from the staff. The menu includes high-end meat, seafood and curry entrees, as well as starters and desserts.

    Kaxapa Factory

    A family-owned and operated restaurant, Kaxapa Factory serves up Venezuelan and South American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located in central Playa del Carmen, away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas. Menu favorites include kaxapa, arepa and patacon. The affordable prices also make Kaxapa a fantastic choice for a meal out when in town.

    Cenote Chikin Ha

    Take the day and head over to the island of Cozumel onboard the Barcos Caribe. The quick 30-minute ferry ride takes you from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, where you can explore the quaint and quiet island. Cozumel has a main downtown area with shops, restaurants and bars, or you can enjoy the beautiful beaches that surround the island. You can also visit a lighthouse and Nature Park with alligators and other wildlife.
