    What's the Weather like in Playacar in April

    Just a short 40-minute drive from Cancun, in the heart of the Quintana Roo region, lies Playacar, a small community to the south of Playa del Carmen. Once a small fishing town, the area is now filled with hotels and villas and has fantastic weather, perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun.


    April's temperatures, like other areas on the Riviera Maya, are warm, averaging 26°C (about 79°F). The lows drop down to 23°C (about 73°F) and the highs start to get hot, reaching up to an average high of 29°C (around 85°F). With these temperatures, you'll want to get out your short-sleeved shirts and shorts from storage and break in your flip flops. During the evening hours, you might want a light jacket or sweater, although the lows still feel much warmer than a typical UK spring day.

    The sun shines for an average of 10 hours a day this month and there is a 21 percent chance of a sunny day, so pack those sunglasses, hat and sunscreen.


    This month is the calm before the beginning of the rainy season in May, with low rainfall of 41mm, falling over 3 days. The chance of rain is only 11 percent and the chance of a cloudy day is 9 percent.


    The last of the El Norte winds disappear in April, so you can spend time extended time on the beach without too much sand blowing around. There's only a 32 percent chance of a windy day this month.

    The average sea temperature has risen about a degree since March, making the water even warmer for swimming and watersports. The average sea temperature is now27°C (about 81°F), so warm that it might even feel a little cool when you get out of the water with an average air temperature that is lower than the water temperature.

    Mamitas Beach

    North of Playa del Carmen's main beach is Mamitas Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the area. The warm ocean water temperatures this month, around 27°C (about 81°F), draw people to the water. It's a happening hot-spot full of bars, beach clubs and numerous watersport companies. From the beach, you have easy access to a plethora of restaurant options to grab a bite to eat and get back to fun in the sun.

    La Brocherie is a French deli that is conveniently located in downtown Playa del Carmen. While there, enjoy a French rotisserie chicken or splurge on the amazing desserts like crème brulee and lemon or blueberry tarts.     Another popular ecological park, Xel-Ha invites guests to take in the natural beauty of the forests, rivers and lagoons of the park. Visitors can swim and snorkel with thousands of fish or explore the park by bicycle or mini-train. Other activities include swimming in the Xel-Ha cave, cliff jumping, zip-lining and kite-flying. Kids will enjoy the special area just for them, with activities suited to different age levels.

    Rancho Baaxal

    To see the island from a different perspective, consider a horseback riding tour from Rancho Baaxal. Take the daytime tour or the wait for a full moon to experience nighttime riding on the Full Moon tour. All tours include a 1.5-hour tour through the jungle and on unspoiled beaches, as well as a tour guide and drinks and snacks. The Full Moon tour also includes a bonfire on the beach.

    Playa Boardsports

    Thanks to the calmer waters surrounding Playacar, you can enjoy stand-up paddle boarding, an increasingly popular watersport. Playa Boardsports offers one and two-hour lessons that teach the basics of SUP and also give you a chance to try out your new-found skills. If you already have experience, opt for one of the tours, or simply rent equipment by the hour and go out on your own.
