August Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather like in Playa Del Carmen in August

Temperature

August in Playa del CarmenMexico, is characterised by very high temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Because the resort is located so close to the equator, it experiences a tropical climate all year round. August sits in the middle of summer, but it is also a part of the rainy season. This means that although the weather is extremely pleasant at this time of year, there is also an increased chance of rain. Despite this, August is a great time to visit Playa del Carmen for the tropical summer temperatures and the great array of things to see and do.

High temperatures in August can soar to 32°C and above during the afternoon hours. But on average, temperatures usually bask at around 28°C still very hot for this time of year. The evenings and nights are warm, too, with low temperatures hardly ever dropping below 24°C. If you are visiting Playa del Carmen at this time of year, it is a good idea to pack lots of lightweight clothing like t-shirts, shorts, and swimwear for the daytime. It is unlikely that you'll need any warmer clothes, but remember to pack sun cream as the tropical sun is particularly strong.

Rain

Playa del Carmen's positioning near the equator means it has a rainy season and a wet season. August falls in the rainy season which means that, although it is technically summer, there is an increased chance of rainfall. On average, around 164mm falls throughout the month over a period of 3 days. This small timeframe means that you probably won't get caught in any showers. But, if you do, they will likely be quick bursts that pass quickly. Don't forget to pack an umbrella and waterproofs to stay on the safe side.

Sunshine Hours

Playa del Carmen's tropical climate also means that there is little variation in the amount of sunshine hours throughout the year. In August there are around 10 hours of sunshine per day, leaving you with plenty of time to get to know the resort and everything it has to offer.

Average Sea Temperature

Many people flock to the resort's shores for its luscious beaches and clear waters. In August, the sea temperatures languish at an incredibly pleasant 29°C, making them the perfect place to swim, splash around, and try out some watersports. There is only a 6% chance of a windy day at this time of year, so there is no need to worry about undercurrents and choppy waves.

August is a popular time to visit Playa del Carmen because, even though there is an increased chance of rainfall, the temperatures are consistently high, there is plenty of sunshine, and the Caribbean waters are lovely and warm.
