Playa de la Arena Weather June Averages, Canary Islands
And so, the wonderful Canarian summer strolls into Playa de la Arena, with an average temperature of 22°C (72°F) and a record low humidity at 70% on average. The dew point is far from uncomfortable, making the nights pleasant at an average low temperature of 18°C, while the hotter days are expected to reach 25°C as a high average.
The days are long, with up to 11 hours of glorious sunshine and clear blue skies, with 80% chances of sunny days throughout the month. Rainfall is virtually non-existent at an average of 0mm, hence chances of rain or clouds are both at 1%, leaving plenty of room for nothing but excellent weather and a mild climate.
The ocean brings along bold breezes, with wind speeds of up to 12mph on average. Most of the winds are soft eastern and south-eastern influences, both dry and hot from the neighbouring coasts of Western Sahara and Senegal. However, due to the central mountains of the island, not all of these winds make it onto the west coast, keeping the summer here on a good balance. Chances of windy days are still high at 60% on average, so expect some high tides and occasionally choppy waters, perfect for sailing and windsurfing.
Ultimately, the Central Atlantic Ocean maintains a higher average temperature of 21°C (70°F), significantly better than the previous month of May. At this point, the waters are clear blue and warm along the shorelines, perfect for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Mind you, we strongly recommend that you pay attention to the beach flags and only swim where there's a blue, green or yellow flag, as the undercurrents may be deceiving around beaches signalled with the red flag.
Tropical influences keep the water temperature at such wonderful averages, and while you may relish in the abundance of sunshine and friendly waters, we also recommend that you don't overlook the importance of SPF protection and check the forecast for oncoming heat.
Despite the high season here in Tenerife, you can find delightful double rooms at rustic resorts such as La Casona Del Patio for just £53 per night for couples. This resort can be found in Santiago Del Teide and is in close proximity to the beautiful Teno Nature Park. It's surrounded by lush green nature and it's obviously a great spot for all sorts of hiking, trekking and even horse riding all of these activities can be booked at the hotel's tour desk. The suites feature air conditioning, flat screen TV and private bathrooms, and their terraces open up to superb views of the rural surroundings. You'll be delighted to also discover a fully equipped modern fitness centre and a fine dining restaurant on-site.
The Dream Hotel Gran Tacande & Spa offers splendid twin rooms for £112 per night for couples during this period, all of them stylishly decorated and fitted with air conditioning, plush lounge area, flat screen TV and en suite bathroom, as well as balconies with beautiful views of the ocean. You can find this sumptuous accommodation on Playa Del Duque, overlooking the neighbouring island of La Gomera. There are two outdoor swimming pools available on-site, as well as the Vitanova Spa and several high end restaurants, including the Zurron Buffet Restaurant and the Bocana Grill. You'll be delighted to discover canopies on your bed, incredible views of mountains and gardens from some of the rooms, beauty and massage treatments available, as well as a modern fitness centre within the same resort.
The Grand Collection of Iberostar is proud to have a sumptuous accommodation offer in this part of Tenerife, just a minute's walk from the same exclusive Playa Del Duque. Its colonial style suites go for £164 per night for couples throughout the month of June, and they all feature a canopy bed, a separate dressing room and a sofa bed on top of all the usual luxury amenities. The main building is surrounded by a heated freshwater pool, and we're pretty sure you won't say no to a dip in the Jacuzzi pool also available on-site. There's the obvious choice of fine dining restaurants included in this 5-star resort, as well as a poolside bar and live piano music in the evening at La Tosca Bar.
More than a visually stunning contrast of volcanic black sand against the white foamy waves of the Atlantic Ocean, Playa de la Arena's main beach is also one of the absolute best spots for a truly exotic experience, as the dark sand absorbs the heat from the sun, releasing it in a slow and steady process. Hence this incredible beach is perfect for all-year-round enjoyment, as it maintains its warmth through any of the 12 months! Besides, how many exotic beaches like this one are there in the world? Volcanic rocks line the shore as well, making this a perfect spot for diving and snorkelling, due to the natural abundance of interesting marine life.
Don't forget that this is also a fully-serviced urban beach and a proud bearer of the Blue Flag for water safety, cleanliness and high quality of its amenities, so Playa de la Arena is bound to impress you from the very first step. Just sit back, let the sun spoil you and don't forget to enjoy the azure waters to the very fullest in this little corner of paradise.
Offering a delicious variety of both Spanish and international cuisine, Juan Lanas Restaurant has successfully survived several ownerships throughout the years, without any sacrifices on quality or price. The soups are rich and full of flavour, the steaks are tender and sided by freshly cut chips, the beef curry and the pork cheeks almost melt in your mouth, and on top of this entire taste nirvana, the staff is extremely professional and welcoming. Not to mention the wine list
Cantina Mexicana stands proud on the western seafront of Playa de la Arena, surrounded by competition from other countries. Despite the impressive selection of Indian, Chinese and European restaurants that flank it, the Cantina maintains a certain standard of excellence when it comes to authentic Mexican food. Obviously you'll be delighted to find delicious burritos and tacos, as well as other specialities, all prepared with the utmost care and attention to flavours, using fresh local ingredients and some original Mexican spices. Top that with a cold beer and you might as well never leave this island.
While this little resort doesn't have the buzzing nightlife of its neighbouring sister beaches, Playa de la Arena is the proud home of the Blarney Stone, situated in the very middle of its beachfront promenade. This is a traditional Irish pub which is often frequented by families and couple, given its friendly and welcome atmosphere. They serve drinks and great food from breakfast all the way to dinner, and the menu is varied and very attractive we're happy to point out the pies! As the evening falls, the draught ales and stouts begin to pour, and local artists take the little stage in order to entertain with live music and fun acts.
One of the best things to happen in Tenerife this time of the year is the amazing Starmus Festival, a combination of science, astronomy and music which has been a raging success for several years now. Taking place at the end of June, this incredible assembly of some of the world's most brilliant minds in the field of physics, astronomy and technology has previously drawn keynote speakers such as Neil Armstrong and Stephen Hawking. This year the "line-up" is only getting snazzier, with special guests such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins and Alexei Leonov, among many other great voices of the 21st century's advance in science. This is an out-of-this-world event altogether, attended by Nobel Prize laureates, astrophysicists, astronauts and many other pioneers in the incredible field of looking beyond the confines of our little planet.
Take the Loro Parque Premium Tour while you're in Playa de la Arena, and you won't regret a single second of it. This magnificent combination of a wildlife and water park is known around the world for its unique variety of fauna and flora you'll get to watch dolphins and whales swim around and jump up to greet you, you will certainly have a chance to see protected species of gorillas in their natural habitat, you'll even get to watch tigers frolic around in the grass and giant tortoises slowly moving around. This incredible location is an absolute must on anyone's to do list while in Tenerife, and there is no reason why it shouldn't be on yours too.
Another great way to spend the day is by taking the Aqualand and Jungle Park Combi Entrance option, which gives you unlimited access to the bright and insanely fun Aquapark near Playa de Las Americas. On one hand you have all the chutes and slides and family bars and restaurants that are part of the water park, but then on the other side you can stroll right into the Jungle Park, where a variety of rare and exotic animals dwell in a natural environment. Chances are you'll also get to interact with monkeys in their natural habitat, as well as protected species of tropical birds. Either way, make sure you pack your camera. You won't want to miss any of these moments.
