Things to do in Paphos in December
Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church
Paphos boasts a large assortment of historical sites of interest which are well worth paying a visit. The Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church at Kato Paphos, which is open daily, features numerous ruins and also houses St. Paul's Pillar. St. Paul attempted to convert the ruler at the time to Christianity, and succeeded, but not before being punished with 40 lashes while tied to this lump of stone.
Close by, just off the E0703 to the south of Mamountali, lies the Chysopolitissa Monastery which was established in 1152 and dedicated to "Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate" and features numerous old treasures. The monastery also hosts a winery which is one of the best-regarded in Cyprus.
Royal Manor of Kouklia
The Royal Manor of Kouklia, to the south-west of Kouklia Village, houses the Aphrodite's Temple which contains a museum with many displays of excavations. It was regularly used as a sanctuary until the 3rd or 4th century.
Paphos also boasts some excellent wineries. The Kolios Winery at Statos-Ayios, Fotios provides a special lunch and a tour of the winery, and this winery typically produces over 400,000 bottles of wine per year.
