If you can cope with the heat and want to head to the theme parks, head to the fantasy-themed Universal's Islands of Adventure. Battle villains with Spider-Man, launch from zero to 40 mph in two seconds on The Incredible Hulk Coaster and escape a T-rex as you plummet down an 85-foot waterfall on the Jurassic Park River Adventure. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The park now includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter where you can relive J.K. Rowling's magical tales. Cinco de Mayo
There's Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for May 5, which celebrates the fact that one this day in 1862, during the Battle of Puebla, around 8,000 French soldiers took a beating from a Mexicans force half that size. From May 3 to 5 there are various events across Orlando including a Chihuahua race to raise money for animal charities, Latin music performances and a bar crawl. Expect a carefree vibe and lots of tequila.
Orlando Carnival
For Caribbean-style celebrations there's Orlando Carnival which takes place every year at the Citrus Bowl near the end of May. There are plenty of events in the lead up to the Mardi Gras parade including fetes and parties.
Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival
Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival celebrates the performing arts in various venues across the city. From mid May to Memorial Day there are around 500 theatrical performances in and around Loch Haven Park. As well as theatre shows there's a lively outdoor stage, a beer tent and Kids' Fringe.
