Catch a film under the stars<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open Cinema <\/a>in sunny M\u00e1laga<\/a>, Spain<\/a>\u00a0offers a veritable feast of films and videos, with 84 different showings taking place outside across M\u00e1laga\u2019s beaches and urban spaces. Unlike our British weather<\/a>, which is unpredictable at best, the weather in M\u00e1laga<\/a> in August<\/a> is reliably lovely and conducive to enjoying films al fresco<\/em>. Which is a good thing really as there’s plenty to see, from children\u2019s and family-friendly films such as The Muppets<\/em> in the morning, to art-house showings like Volver<\/em> by internationally renowned Spanish director, Pedro Almod\u00f3var, in the evening, there’s something for everyone. Venues include the city\u2019s three largest beaches: La Malagueta<\/a>, La Misericordia<\/a> and El Dedo<\/a>, Alb\u00e9niz cinema theatre, Carmen Thyssen Museum<\/a> and, new for this year, the Film Park in Teatinos.\u00a0Without a doubt an invigorating and fun way of watching films \u2013 old and new – this free festival runs until 15 August 2013. Not just for film buffs, catch it while you can!<\/p>\n

Fancy a paddle?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The World Paddle Tour<\/a> has come to M\u00e1laga this summer after its success in other Spanish cities such as Barcelona<\/a>, Madrid<\/a> and Las Palmas<\/a>. It is a major event held at Palacio de Deportes<\/a>. Head there by the 4 August and watch the world\u2019s best players go head to head. Wednesday is the Day of the Spectator in every tournament circuit, so admission is free.<\/p>\n

Festival fun<\/strong><\/p>\n

The M\u00e1laga Fair <\/a>is a big summer festival, which dates back to the time when M\u00e1laga was annexed to the territories belonging to the Catholic King and Queen. They seized the town on 19 August 1487. Today it\u2019s an international, cosmopolitan, open-minded celebration embodying the town\u2019s spirit as a leading tourist destination in Europe. Highlights include the opening ceremony complete with a spectacular fireworks display, the pilgrimage, which encompasses horsemen, carriages and Malagueos accompanying the fair\u2019s flagship to Santuario de la Victoria, the Fair Centre set within the city\u2019s picturesque historic streets where you can quaff fine wines and munch on tasty tapas while listening to music, and much much more. The festival takes place from 17 to 24 August.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>It\u2019s all about the music\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

There\u2019s no quibbling the fact that Enrique Iglesias is one of the most successful contemporary Spanish singers of all time. Not only has he sold 100 million copies of his nine albums (and his two collections of greatest hits) worldwide, he\u2019s gone platinum in most countries, and has eight world tours and 69 No. 1 hits (23 in Latin music) under his (sexy leather) belt. Not one to rest on his laurels, the smooth singer with the sultry eyes will be starring at the Starlite Festival<\/a> (23 July \u2013 24 August) in Marbella<\/a> for a special, intimate show. If you\u2019ve got a thing for the Iglesias gentlemen, you\u2019ll no doubt be delighted to hear that you\u2019re in for a double whammy \u2013 Julio Iglesias will also be at the festival \u2013 now that\u2019s what we call bang for your buck. It’s not just the weather<\/a>\u00a0in Marbella that’s hot this August<\/a>…(sorry).<\/p>\n
