The Met Office counts\u00a0<a title=\"pollen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/health\/public\/pollen-forecast\">pollen<\/a>\u00a0from March to August, however, pollen can be\u00a0in the air much earlier \u2013 from January right through to November.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/shutterstock_939452321.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2666\" title=\"shutterstock_93945232\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/shutterstock_939452321.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/shutterstock_939452321.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/shutterstock_939452321-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pollen season has three main pollen type phases:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tree pollen \u2013 late March to mid-May.<\/li>\n<li>Grass pollen \u2013 mid-May to July.<\/li>\n<li>Weed pollen \u2013 end of June to September<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Our\u00a0<a title=\"pollen calender\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/media\/image\/f\/k\/Pollen_Calendar_Infographic_2012.jpg\">pollen calendar<\/a>\u00a0has a detailed breakdown of the different types of pollen and their peak times within a season. We manage the only pollen count monitoring network in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/country\/uk\/\">UK<\/a> using information from our network, our weather data and expertise from organisations such as the\u00a0<a title=\"National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.worc.ac.uk\/discover\/national-pollen-and-aerobiology-research-unit.html\">National Pollen and Aerobiological Unit\u00a0<\/a>and PollenUK to produce forecasts that help support allergy and hay fever sufferers through the most difficult time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>There are millions of hay fever sufferers across the UK, and the Met Office forecasts provide vital information to help reduce the impact pollen has on their health.\u00a0 At this time of year, tree pollen is more prevalent with grass and weed pollens becoming more prevalent from mid May onwards.<\/p>\n<p>Yolanda Clewlow\u00a0said: \u201cThe best way to manage your condition, if you suffer from hayfever, is to keep an eye on the Met Office pollen forecasts to help you understand the best time to take appropriate medication and avoid exposure to pollen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We provide\u00a0free, public pollen forecasts to all of the UK.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pollen Diary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of an important Europe-wide study, hay fever sufferers are recording their symptoms online through the European Aeroallergen\u00a0Network (EAN) Patient\u2019s Hay fever Diary.<\/p>\n<p>Document your symptoms and compare them with concentrations of pollen in the air, to help identify\u00a0which pollen you are allergic to, look back at pollen levels from previous\u00a0seasons and read the latest pollen news. This is a long-term study that will significantly aid research into pollen and hay fever.<\/p>\n<p>Sign up to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pollendiary.com\/Phd\/\">pollen diary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pollen Maps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Together with\u00a0<a title=\"Public Health England\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/public-health-england\">Public Health England<\/a>\u00a0we have produced species location maps for the south west\u00a0of key allergenic\u00a0plant species (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset). The maps show the locations of six different tree and plant species \u2013 grass, alder, ash, birch, oak and pine \u2013 key allergenic\u00a0plants for asthma and hayfever.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/public\/pws\/invent\/weathermap\">pollen forecast<\/a>s are\u00a0part of a range of weather-related services offered by the Met Office, which include\u00a0<a title=\"UV index\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/health\/yourhealth\/sunburn\">UV index<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Heat Health watch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/public\/weather\/heat-health\/#?tab=heatHealth\">Heat Health watch<\/a>\u00a0and data supporting the UK\u00a0<a title=\"air quality forecasts\" href=\"http:\/\/uk-air.defra.gov.uk\/forecasting\/\">air quality forecasts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Met Office<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Different types of pollen, released at varying times throughout the year, cause millions to suffer from\u00a0hay fever\u00a0and other allergies and these symptoms can have a serious impact on well-being.
