{"id":1963,"date":"2014-08-18T17:16:18","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T17:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/?p=1963"},"modified":"2014-08-18T17:17:08","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T17:17:08","slug":"a-wet-start-to-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/a-wet-start-to-august\/","title":{"rendered":"A wet start to August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/country\/uk\/\">UK<\/a> has already seen nearly its entire \u2018normal\u2019 rainfall for August in the first half of the month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/shutterstock_123544573.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1965\" title=\"shutterstock_123544573\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/shutterstock_123544573.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/shutterstock_123544573.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/shutterstock_123544573-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Figures up to the 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of August show there has been 86.1mm of rain so far in the UK, just short of the 89.5mm long-term (1981-2010) average.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at individual countries, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/scotland\/\">Scotland<\/a> has already seen more than its full-month average with 121.4mm of rain so far compared to the average of 116.7mm. The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/inverness\/\"> Inverness<\/a> and Moray areas have been particularly wet, with\u00a0significant flooding from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/news\/ex-hurricane-bertha-across-the-uk\/\">ex-hurricane Bertha<\/a> on 10 to 11 August.<\/p>\n<p>Rainfall for England and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/northern_ireland\/\">Northern Ireland <\/a>so far is just under the full-month average, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holiday-weather.com\/wales_gb\/\">Wales<\/a> has been the driest relatively speaking \u2013 with 83.2mm of rain making up 77% of its full-month average. Normally at this stage you would expect about 42% of the average to have fallen.<\/p>\n<p>With regards to temperatures and sunshine, the month has been much closer to average so far.<\/p>\n<p>The UK mean temperature is currently 15.2C, which is 0.3C above the full-month average.<\/p>\n<p>UK sunshine hours are at 77.8 hours, which is 48% of the full-month average \u2013 so just ahead of where we\u2019d expect after 13 days of the month.<\/p>\n<p>While these figures are interesting, they don\u2019t tell us where the month will end up overall \u2013 we\u2019ll have to wait until the full-month figures are in before deciding where this August fits in to the records.<\/p>\n<p>As we head in to next week there should be a good deal of drier weather but with northerly winds bringing in cooler air it will feel colder than of late, especially at night.<\/p>\n<p>This will feel noticeably cool in the wind, so people heading out in the evening may want to take a few extra layers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/\">Met Office<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK has already seen nearly its entire \u2018normal\u2019 rainfall for August in the first half of the month.
