What's the Weather Like in Nassau in May
Rainfall
The major difference between the weather in the previous months of March and April, and the present month of May is that rainfall is significantly increased. Whilst this is not the wettest month of the year by a long way, a title which falls to July, there is a definite jump in terms of how much you can expect on average across the month. You can expect an average rainfall level of around 160mm across the whole month, which can affect around 12 days. Again, this is unlikely to be prolonged and is more likely to be short and rather sharp downpours on any tropical island can be rather thunderous when they occur, but do leave behind fresher conditions.
Temperature
Temperature-wise, you can expect around 26°C as an average temperature, which is certainly on the increase, and during the hottest parts of the day the average high can reach up to 29°C. Another change in the weather comes in the form of the evening lows, and as the year moves on you can expect night-times to become much warmer; this month sees an average low of around 22°C, which means evenings will most definitely require a fan or air conditioning, to enable a good night's sleep.
Sea Temperature
The beaches in and around Nassau are now packed, and it's no wonder when you consider the average sea temperature of 27°C.
Sunshine Tours
You won't struggle to find a hotel swimming pool for a cool down either, with many offering indoor pools as a break from the sun, which on average shines for around 10 hours per day. Sunshine hours are now pretty constant across the summer season, so again, hello tan! As a break from the beach, there are many golf courses across the island too, and many centred around the capital itself.

Overlooking the water you will find Coco Plum Resorts Bahamas. This is a three star, family friendly hotel, offering private balconies with great views for all. There are only 40 rooms in this particular establishment, which means it is quiet and laid-back, and it has a large restaurant, bar, lounge, and poolside bar to spend your time.
Graycliff Hotel
If you're looking for something a little more upmarket, perhaps for a special occasion, then it has to be Graycliff Hotel. This has an accompanying top class restaurant, but the hotel itself is set in an old colonial mansion, set in tropical gardens that are shaded and fragrant. The restaurant also has the largest private wine collection anywhere in the world, with over 27,500 different bottles in the wine cellar.
Best Western Bay View Suites Hotel
For a budget option, with plenty of facilities, check out Best Western Bay View Suites Hotel. This is a three star choice which is close to everything you could need in terms of the city centre. There are three pools, a poolside bar and terrace, and around four acres of tropical gardens to roam around to your heart's content.
Nassau Beaches in May
Cable Beach
The most populous area of Nassau is around the Cable Beach region, so this means this beach can get a little crowded from time to time. Having said that, it's never hugely packed, and the long stretch of sand means there is plenty of room for everyone. The sand is blinding white, the sea is equally as blinding blue, and there are many amenities for fun here too.
Bars and Restaurants
Curly's Restaurant and Bar
Beach shacks are certainly the order of the day for laid back dining, and Nassau is full of them. Curly's Restaurant and Bar is a colourful and chilled out place to head for a bite to heat, with traditional food cooked to order. The rum punch and conch salad is a good combination, as well as the ever-popular BBQ ribs too.
Greek Islands Restaurant and Bar
Of course, you might like to go a little more international, and in that case check out Greek Islands Restaurant and Bar. This is the taste of the Mediterranean, and decorated in calming blues and whites. The meze will start off your meal, and then the octopus and Greek salad are two of the most popular dishes on the menu.
Hard Rock Cafe
There is also a branch of the Hard Rock Café in Nassau, with American diner-style food to enjoy. Cocktails here are fantastic, and this is a great, fun night out to enjoy. Particularly at weekends, you might have to pre-book a table.
Things to Do in Nassau in May
Queen's Staircase
There is plenty of history to be found in Nassau, and Queen's Staircase is possibly one of the most sombre sites to visit. This is free to visit, which is always a plus point, and is a limestone staircase which was built by 600 slaves at the end of the 1700's. This is a must visit.
Ardastra Gardens, Zoo, and Conservation Centre
Ardastra Gardens, Zoo, and Conservation Centre is a fantastic place to visit for all the family, or simply those who love to get out into nature. The country's native and national bird is found here, the Caribbean Flamingo, and you can enjoy shows featuring this iconic, pink bird too. There are several acres of land to explore, and the centre is around 80 years old, so there is some history here too. This a peaceful place and somewhere you can truly kick back and relax, whilst also learning about conservation of wildlife.
Clifton Heritage National Park
Clifton Heritage National Park is another must visit, and here you will find the spot that some of the most iconic films were shot at including Jaws and some of the Bond films. This is also a great place for the family to visit, with Pirates Beach a great spot; here you can enjoy games, dressing up as a pirate, and beach parties too. Further up into the park you will find the remains of historic Lucayan villages and plantations, with a more authentic and traditional way of life.
