March Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Naples in March

Temperature

As spring makes an appearance in Naples, things start to warm up gradually. March still has a slightly wintery feel about it, with an average temperature of around 12°C, however the mercury can rise up to as high as 16°C on good days, which is certainly warm enough to explore with a thin jacket or cardigan, as opposed to a huge winter coat! The low reaches around 7°C still during the evenings, meaning a chill is certainly still in the air.

Rainfall

Luckily, rain is a little reduced again, with an average of 80mm throughout the month, affecting around 10 days only.

Sunshine Hours

Naples experiences a little more sun during the month of March compared to the winter months which have just passed, with an average of 5 beautiful hours of sunshine per day.

Sea Temperature

The sea temperature is still a little chilly however, at around 14°C, which means beach days should probably be put on hold for another month or two. Despite this fact, there is more than enough to keep even the most intrepid of travellers occupied in Naples, regardless of the month.

Naples Hotels for March

M Gallery Palazzo Caracciolo Napoli

Art and culture is a major player in Naples, it's basically on every wall and corner you see, so it makes sense that hotels boast the same thoughts too. M Gallery Palazzo Caracciolo Napoli is bursting with history, being right in the heart of the historic district, and the former residence of the aristocratic Caracciolo family. The building itself is enough to make architecture fans weep.

Le Stanze Del Vicere Boutique Hotel

Le Stanze Del Vicere Boutique Hotel is another beautifully designed and furnished hotel, said to be inspired by Royal Epoque. The hotel is elegant and the gardens offer a piece of sanctuary within a large city.

Holiday Inn Naples

Alternatively however, if you prefer something a little more modern, then Holiday Inn Naples ticks those boxes. Situated around 2km from the city centre, there is a complimentary, first come, first served shuttle bus to take guests to the city centre and to the airport.

Bars and Restaurants

Pescheria lo Squalo

Because of Naples' close proximity to the sea, it makes sense that seafood is going to be popular in the city, and there are countless seafood restaurants because of that. Pescheria lo Squalo is certainly one of the best, and a favourite for locals and tourists alike. The catch is fresh and flavoursome, and the menu is full of dishes which have a twist on the norm, such as Genovese style pasta with onions and fish.

Pizzeria Sandropizzettata

It would be a crime not to mention pizza, and Pizzeria Sandropizzettata is one of the best in the city. Here you can try some of the most authentic, thin crust pizza around, for a low price too. If you prefer to simply grab a pastry on the go however, then check out Patisserie Capparelli, where you can sit in or take away your treats.

Things to do in Naples in March

Naples is one of the most historic cities on earth, full of ancient whispers of Roman times gone by. Because of that, it makes perfect sense that you should get out and see some of that history for yourself. Much of it feels modern day, because it is so well preserved and authentic, so a camera probably won't capture the feel of it, but it will certainly capture the sights for you.

Parco Archeologico del Pausilypon

Parco Archeologico del Pausilypon is a great place to head, full of ancient Roman ruins and beautiful views. You enter the site through a tunnel, officially known as a grotto, which was built 100BC, before arriving at the ruins of a very well preserved Roman villa. The sight which greets you is something words can't explain, and the view over the Bay of Naples is just the same. You can pre-book a guided tour too, which will give you more information as you go along.

Cataombe Di San Gaudioso Napoli

Another equally fascinating window into history is the rather dark but spectacular Cataombe Di San Gaudioso Napoli. This is a place which will give you an intriguing look into the early beginnings of Christianity, as well as capturing history almost like it is in the modern day. There are many dark tunnels to this site however, so do bear that in mind if you don't like enclosed spaces or darkness.

Spaccanapoli

Of course, you can't explore Naples without heading into the historic centre, or the old town. This is where you will see authentic life, and people watching is one of the best ways to waste a little time, perhaps sat at one of the street cafes sipping an authentic Italian coffee. Spaccanapoli is located in the heart of the historic centre, and is a very crowded part of the city. This is where you will find narrow alleyways with shops, cafes, and quaint boutiques, all decorated with beautiful architecture and nativity scenes along both sides of the street. Head to Piazza Gesu Nuovo for the beginning of this part of the city, and follow it along. It's almost like going back in time.
