What's the weather like in Mykonos in September

By September the hottest days of summer are over but the days are still very warm and this is often thought to be the best time to visit Mykonos.

Temperature 

The average temperature is still 23°C but the average high/low temperatures are less at a high of 27°C and a low of 18°C. You could expect an odd day or two to hit 30°C at the start of the month. Nights are cooling off towards the end of the month when the low can drop.

Rain

Average rainfall is on the increase at 97mm falling over four days, the highest it has been since March. From now until November when the highest amount of rainfall is recorded, it will increase every month to a high of more than 150mm.  However, the chance of rain is still low this month at just 4% so it is unlikely to affect your holiday plans.

Sunshine Hours

Sunshine hours have dropped to 10 hours though the days are still sunny and warm and this is plenty of time to enjoy the rest. They will drop from now on to the middle of winter to the low of 6 to 7 hours a day. Chances of a windy day have dropped to 65% with the lessening of the onshore summer breeze.

Sea Temperature

September's sea temperature is still 24°C before it starts to cool off towards the end of October when it drops to 22°C so make the most of it and enjoy splashing around. Days by the beach can still be pleasant in October before the cooler temperatures take over and winter starts.

Hotels Mykonos for September

Poseidon Hotel and Suites are located with views across to Delos and are open from April to October. Choose from a selection of standard, deluxe and superior rooms or a suite. The Alley Cafe and Cocktail Bar is close by and offers great food and drinks for the family.

The Charissi Hotel is located in the Vyrssi area just a few hundred metres from the centre of town. It is on a hillside with magnificent views over the town and out to the Aegean Sea. It is just 2km to sandy beaches and the bus stop is just 50m from the front door. Hotel is open from April 15 to October 15 each year. Choose from one of 20 rooms on 2 floors all with air conditioning, small fridge, TV and ensuite bathroom. All rooms open to a balcony or terrace great for watching the sunset. Room service is available 24 hours a day and you can book tours from the desk. Parking is available and you can enjoy breakfast with homemade jams and marmalades.

Mykonos beach for September

A family friendly and nudist beach is Panormos Beach where the families stay on one side and the nudists on the other side. This is a remote, secluded and undeveloped beach on the way to Agios Sostis but you will need to drive or bicycle here as there is no bus service to the beach.

Many of the beaches have organised water sport activitiesElia Beach has separate nudist areas and views of Naxos and is protected from the summer winds. For sports visit Kalo Livadi, it has beach volleyball, water sports and a regular DJ. Platis Gialos offers a wide variety of water sports and you can catch a boat to Elia, Paradise and Agrari Beach for here. On this beach you can ride a banana boat, water ski, wake board, wake surf, wake skate and barefoot ski. 

Bars and Restaurants

Spilias Restaurant and Bar in Mykonos is perched in a seaside cave with an amazing atmosphere and a fresh signature dish of lobster pasta. At Agia Anna near Kalafatis, this is the place for scrumptious seafood, wine and cocktails. Reservations are recommended but call in and hope for the best if you are out in the evening.

Also located at Kalafatis is Bandanna that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. This was one of the first eateries in Mykonos that promoted fresh local and seasonal produce to create tasty fresh food and snacks. Enjoy a handmade pasta or pizza dish or try the signature dish of tuna tagliatelle with pistachio sauce. Visit the facebook page for deals and offers.

For refreshing coffee inland go to Ano Mera and visit Ntekoto. This doubles as a delicatessen and coffee bar and offers you delicious breakfast and freshly squeezed juices all day. Try the grape cookies and the pancakes.

Things to do in Mykonos in September

Vioma Vineyard and winery celebrates the harvest in September with a big feast and wine tasting event. Have a go at foot crushing grapes, eat some wonderful cheeses and Greek delicacies and enjoy the traditional music from traditional instruments. If you are after a bike ride, Yummy Pedals start and finish bicycle tours of Mykonos. All wines are organic and a tour of the farm is a must see.

In the town of Marathi they celebrate the Holy Cross on the 17th of this month at the chapel of Stavros near the airport and at the Folklife Museum. At the Agricultural Museum is the feast of the harvest on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

If you are after some lovely jewellery visit the Corner Jewellery Shop located at Kouzi Georgouli 27. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is a huge variety of rings and necklaces. For art you need to see Minima Gallery, a gallery of local and European artists. The exhibitions change often and there are sculptures, paintings and photography exhibitions. 

For divers go to Mykonos Diving Centre located on Paradise Beach on the southern side of the island. This is a PADI and CMAS certified centre and also offer nitrous and photography dives. Catering for all abilities you can get accreditation and learn to scuba dive.

For a great night out in Mykonos goto Cavo Paradiso Club. Be aware this is only open till late September, so do check the dates before you plan a night out here. It is an impressive venue globally and people come from all over the world to dance and party here. Many stages provide a variety of house and dance music.  The natural surrounding make visiting a memorable experience, especially if you watch the sunrise.
