In 2010, temperatures reached a very hot 39°C, a record high for the area, while in 1968 the lowest recorded August temperature was just 16°C.

This is also one of the driest months of the year, along with July, and the average rainfall this month is 0mm. At the start of this month the sun rises at 7.25am and sets at 8.50pm so there is still plenty of daylight to enjoy. Humidity is from 55% to 85%, mildly humid to humid, but is never too uncomfortable as the fresh sea breezes keep conditions manageable. Calima can occur during the summer months and causes an increase in temperatures and hot, dry, dusty winds, caused by trade winds blowing from the African Sahara Desert. Wind speeds are often quite strong and range from a moderate breeze of 6 m/s to a high wind of 14 m/s. These can sometime get as strong as 16 m/s, so check the conditions before heading out on a boat if unsure. The weather forecast will keep you up to date with current conditions.
