Menorca Beach for May

Cala Mitjana is without a doubt one of the best beaches in Menorca. Protected by giant white cliffs topped with dense green trees, this golden sandy beach faces a large blue lagoon which is almost always calm, providing the ideal location for swimming. Thanks to the incredible clarity of the water, the sea at Cala Mitjana is also perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. With the exception of a small car park, there are no real facilities available here, so you'll need to bring your own shade, food and drinks with you. Cala Mitjana can get extremely crowded during the summer months, which makes May one of the best times of year to visit.

Locally known as 'Queen of the Calas', Cala Galdana is famous for its sandy bay, which many agree is the best in the area. Here you'll find soft white sand which is perfect for children to play in and adults to relax on. Like many beaches in the area, the sand here gently slopes into the water, creating the optimum conditions for safe swimming. There is also a top selection of hotels, bars and restaurants lining the beach, providing you with plenty of choice when lunchtime rolls around.

When it comes to a secluded, natural beach a world away from the bustling tourist resorts, it doesn't get much better than Cala Turqueta. This sandy cove is protected by the local authorities and is therefore as natural and pristine as they come. Here you'll find fine white sand and remarkably clear and shallow waters. Although the shallow waters create the ideal conditions for young children to play, they can be a bit of a pain for adults who have to wade really far out if they want a proper swim. Be aware that there are no real facilities offered here, so you'll need to bring your own shade, food and drinks with you.
